[September] What are you reading?

On my daily commute I'm reading Mistborn, and on my nightstand is Guns, Germs, and Steel. They've both been very good so far.

Yesterday I picked up the first five books of the Black Company series, plus Poul Anderson's The Winter of the World, David Drake's Lord of the Isles, and Heinlein's Starship Troopers. They all look like fun, quick reads.

Mistborn is phenomenal. The next two only make it better. The author, Brendan Sanderson, has also been tapped to finish the Wheel of Time series. That actually gives me some incentive to read it again after an 8 book absence!

I was reading The End of the Old Order: Napoleon and Europe 1801-1805 by Frederick W. Kagan, but found it incredibly dry, even by history book standards. Great information and research material, but it will put you to sleep in a New York minute. And this is from someone who likes reading history books!

Have to move onto something lighter...

I've been rereading the Dune series and just finished Messiah. Good books still. Now I just have to wait for the next book to free up at the library. Meanwhile, I'm reading H.G.Wells' Invisible Man. Refreshingly easy reading for a "classic" :D

I've been reading Deadhouse Gates since mid July and I finally finished it.

Terrible. Just... terrible. Now I picked up E. E. Knights' first Vampire Earth book. I'm looking forward to reading someone who understands the crafstmanship required to be a serious writer... in fact after months of slogging through Erikson, I'm desperate for it, and I'm hoping that Knight's that guy.

I got Kathy Reicht's latest book 206 Bones from the library today. So far it's good and entertaining. For the twelfth book in the series it has been solid. After that is going to be a young adult book I know nothing about and got it based solely on the title: Hitler's Daughter.

Reading nothing - really need to remedy this.

Listening to The Lies of Locke Lamora - it's ok, not great - the narrator moves at a slower pace than I am used to.

Btw, I've got my wife reading the classics: Foundation, Farenheit 451, Dune right now.

And, my oldest son is reading the Black Company (first three books).

I'm in the middle of a novel based on the Scottsboro, Alabama trials. It's called, strangely enough, "Scottsboro". Feldman is the author's last name, but I can't recall the first.

Yeah it's been excellent so far. I might pick up the WoT finale too, and that's after giving up after book 6.

Wrapping up the last of Jack Vance's "The Demon Princes" stories.

Got a Sony Reader now. Looking for some good ebooks to download. Anyone have an opinion on Vance's "Lyonesse" series?
