set vs charge and AoO

Negative Zero

First Post
if you set a longspear against a charge, and the opponent dosen't charge you or the target you were defending, but passes through your threatened area,
1. do you still get the AoO?
2. how does that affect the set vs any other potential opponents?
3. how is setting handled anyway? is it like readying? i.e. changing your initiative etc?

thanks all

Yes you still get an AoO.

Setting is a readied action. You are not considered set against other opponents. Although I would allow it if you set against a charge from a door or hallway and another enemy did charge you from that location.

I can second that ruling. A charge is just a ready action where you "ready to recieve a charge". It changes your init etc. just like any other readied action. And like any other readied action, it does not prevent you taking AoO's should you get the chance.
