Settings you want to like

Nah, they just think they do. It's a habit some DMs/GMs have Will. I know I don't know about the metaplot. It's not my world. :p ;)

Midnight. Awesome book, great Tolkienesque flavor, fascinating premise.

But I found it unplayable, at least in a manner I could really enjoy as a DM.

Damn pity, too...

Same here. Absolutely AMAZING setting, great premise, best damn aesthetic I've seen this side of Planescape too.

The problem is that its so heavily metaplotted, too teleological. Either Izrador (did I get the name wrong?) can be defeated, in which case the setting implodes, or you're never ever going to win, and we're in one great big death spiral.

Ravenloft and Masque of the Red Death. The mechanical aspects of the latter just don't really work for me (especially in the newest version). The former for some reason has never excited me much, although I've liked the material all right.

Darksun.

Darksun is cool. I like it. 2nd Ed. Psionics were a nightmare. I might like it in 3E, but I never actually bought the setting, so I don't have it. So sad, its the setting I always wanted to play but never did. *shakes fists at psionics*

Scarred Lands, I do understand. Nearly 3/4 of my D20 book collection are from Sword Sorcery so it makes sense. I love Sord Sorcery books. They really are top notch books. Right up there with Mongoose. Great, great stuff!

Midnight - I loved the premise, I loved the book, but.... where do you go from here? What o you do with your players? My guys like to know they have a chance:confused:

Scarred Lands - I bought the Creature Collection together with my D&D3 core books, and fell in love. I gobbled up all the snippets of info I could find. Then Sword & Sorcery published the Gazettier - and put me right off the Scarred Lands. I bought CC2. I bought Relics and Rituals I & II. But never again would I buy Scarred Lands...

Ravenloft.

Dark Sun.

I love Greyhawk and Eberron, though I use my own homebrew instead.

I hate FR and DL, and have no desire to like them.

YMMV. ;)

I want to like Dragonlance. But I can't... I've even ran a campaign, but it didn't help. Loved the books, loathe to play there.

Dark Sun is one of those settings, like Masque of the Red Death, that works a lot better in a system other than D&D.

Midnight.
The idea of living in a land overwhelmed by evil still has allure, but after thinkinga bout it adventuring seems rough. I also am ambivalent about all the changes from normal D&D, and after my book broke up due to bad binding (twice!) I gave up on it.
I still might purchase Midnight 2nd Edition. Maybe.
