Shackled City, Age of Worms or Savage Tide?

Yes, it does. Hope you guys have a lot of fun (we are!)

Your group actually seems much more balanced than our group, which lacks any real arcane power. We have a dragon shaman in our group, who started off as a fighter. Our experience is that without the Shaman, the group would have died about a hundred times over. Keep an eye on her... ;)

Dragon shaman/barbarian eh...well I've heard worse multi-class ideas. :p :)

Our Dragon Shaman started off as a Fighter, took Tower Shield Proficiency, and started play with an AC in the low twenties. Now, at 3rd level, his AC is around 25. He's almost impossible to hit - and because he's smart in his positioning, there are times when the foes HAVE to swing at him over the low-AC goliath (who does most of the heavy damage). While the Dragon Shaman does very little damage in combat (he's never done more than 9 points of damage), he's easily the group's most important character.

During the fights, he keeps Damage Reduction activated, so that everyone nearby suffers less damage. And he can heal the group up to half their total health indefinately, which has been the only thing that's saved them before. Plus, he can automatically stabilize any dying character with one round of vigor. With a cleric in the group, the Dragon Shaman's healing aura means that the cleric only uses healing to keep the group above half health.

The group's combo of Fighter/Dragon Shaman AC monkey + Goliath Fighter w/ Power Attack is absolutely BRUTAL. There have only been a few fights (The one with Ripclaw, the Final Fight with the Heucuva, and the three savage pirates in the dining room)) so far that have been much trouble for the group to handle.

The barbarian level at 1st will give her the d12 HD, rage, and with the extra feat I gave them, she has Weapon focus (GreatAxe), Power attack and Cleave. Next she will be a dragon shaman for a few levels and we'll see where that goes. She did it for the roleplaying aspect, not the "build" aspect, deciding to be an Olman from the jungle. Her tribe was overrun by humanoids led by Scarlet Brotherhood and many of the survivors were taken captive, but the assault was sqashed when a Gold dragon came down and saved the day for the Jungle tribesmen. The Barbarian PC saw this and became awed (this the lead into the Dragon Shaman class). The reason for her visit to Sasserine was to find out where the slaves were taken. She arrived and wasn't able to learn much and has been in Sasserine for a year.... Did some fighting in the arena and made a bit of a name for herself.

thus the adventure begins....

Sounds good. Let us know how it goes - i wanna see if the Dragon Shaman is the powerhouse for your group that it's been for mine. We will be, after all, running more or less the same campaign.

I'm currently running Shackled City for 3 players. Each one is playing 2 PCs. It seems to be working out fine. One of the PCs is just dominant for the player at different times for the game and the role-playing has been going fine.

I've just started in a STAP PbP game over at Wizards.

We've got 5 character all at 2nd level. The initial fight is all we;ve done and while we came through it fine it did take the DM matrixing reality.

The beastie in the hold of the Blue Nixie is a monster alright. It took the groups WF rogue from full hp (12) to outright dead (-10) in 1 round and still had an attack to direct at my character.

If you've got 3 players then I'd say start at 2nd level and try to be nice to them.

The adventure paths in general have a pretty fearsome reputation.

Yeah, loved that fight. It knocked our goliath from 3 hit points to -10 (but I pretended I forgot the rule that -10 was "Dead", and figured it was just "on the brink" so we wouldn't have a death so early on), and then next round took down the Dragon Shaman to something like -3. Luckily, the rogue took it out with a good attack. It was a tough fight, but I don't count it as one of the "big ones" because the group came at it in waves (Goliath first, and then the Shaman, before the rest of the group committed to taking it out).

We're gonna squeeze in another game on Wednesday and they party takes on the Blue Nixie. I imagine that Sollar Vink is a survivalist and he'll likely jump ship if things go bad and swim ashore. I am gonna make moral a bit shakey for the 8 thugs if the party starts taking them out quickly.
