Shadowdancer....are they possible?

OK...even though it is not out yet, does anyone think it will be possible to make a 4E version of the Shadowdancer? At the moment, the Warlock seems like the class with the closest possibility, what with suspected Teleport abilities....just wondering.

Sidenote....my biggest beef WITH Shadowdancer is that it took 8 levels before one could get even a single level of Shadowdancer....

It wouldn't surprise me if the Shadowdancer is a Shadow Striker base class or, at least, a Paragon Path that gives a lot of cool Shadow-themed powers.

yeah this is my thinking. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 4e version of a Shadowdancer.

If I'm remembering correctly paragon paths don't start until 10th or 11th level, so you might have to wait longer to get one. That said maybe a wizard/rogue would do the trick until then. Of course this is depended on what mulitclassing looks like.

Edit: And welcome to the fourms:)

Possible? Sure.
But really the entire concept consists of a power or two. A couple stealth-related abilities and short range teleports basically fills out the entire PrC.

It could be interesting however if they fleshed out the class, to make it as some have said a Shadow-power striker.

Perhaps for the paragon paths, it could be divided up in how one uses their shadow-powers, ie:

Stalker: This shadowdancer has trained herself to mask herself wholly in darkness, and to travel and move in shadows, ie: own version of teleport (closest to ordinary shadowdancer).

Manipulator: This shadowdancer has seen the writing, twisting forms of shadows and given life to it. Her shadow minions can strike down foes that cross her path or lie in wait.

Shadow Blade: This shadowdancer has turned the shadow into a very real, very deadly force. Her blades writhe with shadow that tear through her victims and moving, shifting shadows curl around her feet. Lashing out and striking those she chooses to attack.

Here's hoping they merge the shadowdancer into the "shadow" power source, mix its powers with the powers of the Shadow Hand discipline from Book of Nine Swords, and print it alongside the Shadowcaster.

In the meantime, you could probably fake it pretty well with the Eladrin. We know it has innate short range teleportation.

I suspect that when "Shadow Heroes" comes out, that will be a Paragon Path, or what-not.

The whole source/role this in growing on me, like an exotic fungus. Reminds me of Rolemaster, and that's never a bad thing.

Eladrin? I do not have any of the preveiws...so I do not know who has what? I was under the impression that Eladrin's will be nature based powers...

I understand about the Paragon Paths and such....I will be saddened if it DOES take that long, but will readily accept it.

As for shadow powers, MANY MANY different ways to do them....I am a stalker by nature.

On a related note, Rogue has the ability to focus in a narrow manner, one suggested field is strike from shadows unseesn and dissappear again....HOPEFULLY that will help in this case...

The Eladrin since they have a higher-connection with the Feywild then Elves, can teleport themselves short distances by going through the Feywild. They are also more magically-oriented then nature-oriented like Elves are.

I think we may have to wait till next-year to get Shadow-Powers, but who knows, we originally thought that about Half-Orcs and they are to be released online. Hmm... Actually perhaps the PHB II, DMG II, MM II will be the compilations/some new things of what is released online.

Edit: Extra Thought. Perhaps, we could also be looking at Shadow-Powers the wrong way, if Shadow powers are more closely related to the Shadowfell, then maybe they deal more with death then darkness. Hmm... Perhaps a Shadowdancer could become a rogue/assassin who yes has some shadow abilities but had also courted death and can lace their weapons and abilities with such courted powers...

Could be a interesting path to take Warlocks on as well, actually.

Even if the shadowdancer never exists as a class, I would not be surprised if rogues have an option somewhere along their high level paths to emulate some of their movement and concealment powers.

The shadow summoning on the other hand is pretty specialized and I wouldn't expect to necesarily see that make a return (and without strength drain the appeal of having a shadow pet in comabt might be greatly reduced).
