Shadowdancer - Summon Shadow

The text for this ability in the 3.5 DMG says that every third level gained by the shadowdancer adds +2 HD to her shadow companion. Then, as an example, it says that a 9th level shadowdancer can have a shadow companion with 6 HD. Since a medium shadow has 3 HD to begin with, shouldn't this particular companion have 9 HD total?

Hehe, good catch.

It was like that in the 3.0 books. I haven't checked the 3.0 errata (and I won't), but it probably didn't make it. At some point, the shadow must have had 2 HD...
