Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

At first, I was disappointed. It seemed TOO tied to one source. On further reflection, I think this class will be an ideal addition as a Priest of the various Death Gods. If I need a wizardly Necromancer, there is a very serviceable Grave Dancer in Unnatural Selections. It is actually cool how you can have two different viewpoints work out to be two very different versions of the same concept.

Necro is neat but yeah seems tied to the just one source. Which Im betting most people have never heard of.

Yes her Ranger is more like Aragorn but everyone knows him. The Paly was based on several famous sources like Galahad and Joan of Arc.

Honestly the only thing really tying it to her fave source is the bell thing. Which having not read the book seems a really odd choice. It’s like saying all Paladins must use a ruby studded sheath for their named blade.

Thinking about this post again as I rewatch the stream, and I like how she talks about "her Appendix N" and how everyone should have their own when designing things. Though it may be better for another thread, I think that this is always a fun conversation: What is your Appendix N?

It's the equivalent of a holy symbol. She's gone back and forth on whether it's any musical instrument several times already during the stream and then with this first draft. I suspect it may change again before it ends up in its final book form.

And there's quite a bit of Earthsea in this as well, having just re-read The Farthest Shore. Her take on spellcasters moving back and forth into the world of the dead is very much LeGuin.

The spells, which aren't in this first PDF, play a big part of this as well, with opening gateways to the land of the dead to trigger effects and a mix of controlling and communicating with the dead.

Thanks. I'm not sure if I contributed to that thread. So maybe I missed it somehow last year.

I only fought the first part of the stream but i was hoping she would mention Harrow and Gideon the Ninth. An awesome lesbian necromancer
