Shadowrun Resources

Folks:

I've always come here for my resources on D&D. Now, I find myself getting ready to run a Third Edition Shadowrun game after not having run Shadowrun seriously for more than five or six years. I don't know where the resources are anymore. Most of my old browser bookmarks don't work anymore. I am hoping some of my fellow EN World folks can point me toward some web pages or other resources.

I realize that there is a Fourth Edition. I've heard quit a lot about it from the local demo guy for Shadworun at my FLGS. However, I own almost every Third Edition book and I'm really not in a place to be buying new books right now. Besides, most of the players know Third Edition and this means less learning curve.

I am perfectly willing to adjust mechanics from Fourth to Third if it's got interesting fluff.

I'm not just looking for game-specific materials. Know a good website with news stories that inspire runs or good images for contacts or maps you use for Shadowrun? Great!

Thanks for your suggestions.

The Dumpshock forums are pretty good. They've got a lot of fan material, and are a main fan resource for rules questions. There are people there run and/or play the all editions from 1st edition to 4th, and will discuss them all.

They're at http://forums.dumpshock.com and are where I'd start looking for material.

Dumpshock works for me too.

Best location idea I've run across is to scoop up some local area maps/tourist guides/etc while on holiday. Just helps if it's a location unfamiliar to your PCs. Got a friend here in the UK who uses Phoenix for just such a purpose and it works excellently. Props are a winner for that sort of thing.

For SR, I've also trawled conspiracy websites - sometimes find one interesting enough to hang an adventure round. They often seem to slot right into that system for some reason? :)

Good luck with the GMing! :)

I'm pulling up Dumpshock now.

On the subject of maps, if you are a AAA member, you can get maps for places you are planning on taking a trip to. I got two sets of maps that cover the Seattle area, one for players and one for GM. I marked out the districts on the maps.

A great resource for run planning I stumbled upon yesterday is http://terraserver-usa.com/. They have satellite shots of most of America and there is a "download" link that tiles the image together so you can have a single block. I'm using some shots of industrial areas for runs. One map is zoomed out to show the neighborhood and routes in/out, another zoomed far in to show the building and the few around it. They don't really match up to Seattle streets, but they are great visual aids.

Dumpshock also has links to and info about the the "Missions", the free Shadowrun adventures (an adventure path, actually) by Catalyst Games.

Edit: They are 4E, but shouldn't be too hard to convert.

Shadowrun is one of the most blatant kitchen sink settings out there.

So I'd recommend taking a look at the Arcana Wiki, which basically takes a kitchen sink approach to gaming ideas taken from the real world. ;)

I gave up on Shadowrun towards the end of 3rd edition, once FanPro took over the direction just went somewhere I didn't want. 4th edition made it even worse, so I never picked it up.

Dumpshock was the ENWorld of Shadowrun, can't say how it is nowadays, probably the same clique's.
