(Shark World) Stormlanders

Some more ideas: The Stormlanders are kinda like ancient Roman or Greek civilisation in their architecture, science and knowledge, while think of the Shattered Lands as a kinda huge rock-pool environment :) - great for adventuring in...

The Stormlanders:

The Dunobrai islands are the home of all that remains of one of the most glorious of re-Fall empires,
now a shattered fraction of its former glory. In these days, the islands are called the Stormlands, due to the turbulent and thunderous weather than often prevails in this area.

The people of the Stormlands - often called Stormlanders - are all air genasi. Before the fall, Dunobrai was ruled by djinn and the genasi produced by their dalliances by mortals, and the elemental blood permeated the society so totally that now there is not a single normal human amongst the Stormlanders. For many hundred of years the Stormlanders have been highly insular, fortifying their islands against intruders, and by and large they have had their wish granted since the stormy weather keeps most would-be explorers at bay. However, the tales of the ancient knowledge of the Dunobrai empire, preserved by the Stormlanders, always tempts some.

The main island of the cluster, Kemrari, is a lush and bountiful land. The storms that wrack the seas are remarkably kind to it, blocked from the heartlands by a ring of mountains that circle the island, and the heavy rainfall feeds crops and vegetation. The ancient knowledge of the Duobrai has largely been preserved and they are excellent architects, their towns and the lone city upon the isle being constructed in an orderly grid fashion and with such technological marvels as aqueducts and sewers.

The smaller islands are very similar, except often more wind-swept. Since none approach the size of Kemrari, most are used simply as fortified outposts.

The Stormlanders are also adept at magic, the legacy of their meaning that the academy in the capital provides a capable contingent of battle and weather wizards. They have mastered techniques for guiding their ships through the turbulent seas without harm or damage. Furthermore, a ring of huge crystaiilne pillars dotted throughout Kemrari hints at an ancient magic still alive; a grand ritual that is the source of the weather around the Stormlands. Legend says that the mages of the Dunobrai put the pillars in place and wove spells to enshroud the remnants of their lands with storms, in order that they might be left in peace to rebuild and live their lives. During storms, lightning often strikes the pillars, and there are rumours that they connect to some sort of huge capacitor below the ground.

The Stormlanders maintain a small but incredibly highly trained military, usually clad in scale mail of a curious blue-hued steel found on the island. Stormlanders are highly skilled with bows, and the ancient armoury of the capital city contains a number of magical longbows +1 of shock that the soldiers are armed with.

The current ruler is Emperor Alurem III, who, as his ancestors have done, continues to guard the Stormlands vigilantly from interlopers. Yet now, in recent decades, young Stormlanders have begun to venture forth from the islands, often seeking adventure and most often in the direction of the Shattered Lands. It seems that the storms surrounding the islands are beginning to weaken, for unknown reasons, and sea travel in their vicinity is becoming easier; an alarming concept for many of the Stormlanders.

The Shattered Lands lie nearby the Stormlands, a great swathe of jutting rocks and stone rearing out of the ocean as if a country had been smashed by a huge hammer and fractured into pieces. Only just above sea-level, the tides wash through the gullies and gouges of the Shattered Lands and great rivers of sea cut through parts of it. It may once have been part of the Dunobrai empire, and is surrounded by myths and legends of the beasts and treasures that lurk amidst its jagged paths. A fair number of shipwrecks and flotsam are scattered around it; approaching vessels often don't realise that much of the Shattered Lands are underwater and end up holing themselves on the reefs and rocks that lie just under the water.

On the map, I'm not yet sure.

I'm not talking about Hizagkuur - according to Magic of Faerun, that is a pale gray metal.

I'm not so sure - hizagkuur adds electric and fire damage, but prevents the weapon being enchanted with cold. I don't really see the connection...

There are two others that fight what you have gust said. They are Darksteel and Dlarun ether one might not be it. But you can combine them and that could be the metal you want?

I'm not sure I'll use any of the metals from MoF. I might give the bluesteel some special qualities, but then again it could just be normal steel except for the colour.

Its all up to you gust reamber that.

By the way what do you think of Wuha and the nezumi that I made. Sorry for putting this in your post.

I also think this is a good addition. I would like to note that everyones civilaization were "once the most glorious on the planet" before the meteor hit.

I think these guys will fit in nicely in the upper NW s sector. I have already written about horrible fall spring storms in the artic region. This seems to fit. Maybe the stormlands are the reason the north islands I created get such bad storms! Jerk!

Run with blue steel, I love it. If you would like a benchmark I created snow metal for the world.

It can be found here:
