Fritz will spring surprised behind Rethlin. Attempting to maintain composure he is obviously a bit shaken.

Zook comes out from behind his cover, writes the message and mutters to himself " What a thing to happen " . He stands up and looks over at Kae. signaling for her to wait and looks at the little copper thingy and says " ooh interesting. I love these little warforged components. We should definitely go. I mean black Scrolls sound so intriguing" He looks at it closely and watches the message. Shortly afte he sees the troubled look on the Shifter's face and the little gnome walks up to him and says " You look upset. Did you know the person in the message? Do you know who Manticore is? Would you like to go with me to find out!?!? "

After recievign the shifter's answer he turns to Kae and Rethlin and says " I woud so much like to solve a mystery and find otu what happened. I am useful. I cast spells from arawai as well as spells from arcane books. You fighters should get ready!"

Assuming there are none, she'll be true to her word and bury it in her pack.

The final messenger has looped through and is now playing the message for a third time -- the quality has again degraded.
It continues to replay over and over again.
Also, the wings stopped twitching.

It'll go in your pack, but while the sound has degraded, it's not lost any volume. So your pack will be making funny noises.

Ambra looks up at Veyk as he passes, her eyes watery but her expression far more calm and focused than before. She murmers a quick "Thank you." before rising slowly.

"I guess- we've got to find where that thing came from. It doesn't contain enough information in itself to be of any use. If we want to find out more I suggest we find someone who knows about these 'Black Scrolls'. I-if we can get one of the men who killed him I might be able to get some information out of one of them... if they don't kill us first. I-I should fetch my crossbow."

As Ambra walks over to the weapon rack, she pauses briefly to poke at Kae's backpack.

"Hmm. Guess you have a voice nagging at you and telling you what to do now. Welcome to the club." She smiles nervously, as if she's not sure whether her joke was funny or not.

 

[Autumn]

After taking in the stunning scene Rethlin's chin steeles in resolve. "A murdered Warforged, and he a believer of the sacred Silver Flame no less. This shall not stand." He turns to regard Kae. "Very well stranger, put it in your pack, and guard it well. I am called Rethlin, and you?"

OOC: Note that the symbol of the Sliver Flame is clear for all to see on Rethlin's shield and coat.

"Kae," she says simply, giving him a quick smile before looking down at her pack. She chuckles at Ambra and looks back down with an expression somewhere between amusement and consternation at the muffled noises coming from within. With a laugh she takes the thing back out, realizing it's hopeless to attempt to hide it while it's still making its noises.

"Well, since it doesn't seem practical to hide this thing at the moment, what do you say we make some use of it? It should make rather good bait for catching some clues as to what this excitement is about. The ones who did this will be looking for it, so... let them find it. It'll save us the trouble of finding them ourselves, and give us the edge of surprise too if we set things up right."

"Kae," she says simply, giving him a quick smile before looking down at her pack. She chuckles at Ambra and looks back down with an expression somewhere between amusement and consternation at the muffled noises coming from within. With a laugh she takes the thing back out, realizing it's hopeless to attempt to hide it while it's still making its noises.

" That's very clever. In fact we should set up a trap of some kind. I wonder who will come. If they'll be humans, or warforged or something wierd from beyond like an aberration. Oh! I am just so excited!! " says Zook now looking thoroughly giddy with all the excitment going on around him.

"Perhaps it has enough life in it to assist us in backtracking?" Rethlin adds. "We might as well give it a try. Just stay alert, as Kae said the killers are probably pursuing it."

OOC: ajanders, which characters are you taking on this adventure? The current bunch in the tavern is quite a mix, there is a monk but no true warrior type. Also, Rethlin and Fritz just got out of an adventure, so we might not have priority...

Ambra nods her head at Kae's words, falling into line behind the older woman. "I agree with Kae... a trap would get us a suspect without having to kill anyone. We can take them alive can't we? You're so clever Kae!"

'Ambra, I don't think that's what she mea-'

"Where do we start?"

OOC: Veyk's a fighter isn't he? There's certainly enough here for one group. I'm more worried about the party for my group (just putting the finishing touches on my proposal now). Only Arvan and Khuther seem to qualify for my initial hook, though I notice there's a Thuranni just signed up on the character thread. Anyway I'll probably end up opening it up to everyone. So don't worry if you end up sitting this one out, should be another on the way.

I know there is another adventure coming, but I'm not privy to the details.
I'm comfortable with 4-6 people on this: if it appeals to your character, I suspect you'd better follow Kae: she seems to have a plan.
If not, there's always another adventure coming...

Veyk looks to see how many others are ready to take up Kae's call to action, hanging back from the crowd a little, seemingly non-commital.
