Shelzar: City of Sin; Questions, Answers and stuff in between

*smirks* Traitor! *is kidding*

:p :p Whilst I'll still pick up Shelzar, the idea of a 300+ page city sourcebook, and one which (from what I've heard) is kindof like Venice is something that I really like.

Reminds me of Glantri City...

Um page 62 didn't seem that tame to me...And besides, why shouldn't the DM have to work on some stuff?

As for why, I assume the reason was primiary because at the time, the people writing it assumed it WAS going to be out on time and well before Shelzar was being done.

Um, one page doesn't make a book. Actually, considering how everything else was in the book, that page seemed like slight thing editor missed, normal detail-shyness taken into account, of course. Or something for people to point out "it's not tame, see this page" - kind of thing.

Yes, I know Players book was supposed to be out sooner, but I think it still harms credibility of product to use it as cheap tease to meke people buy other product. It's irrating too. Remains me of Warhammer magic, if anyone is familiar with that story. That PrC seemed pretty much Shelzar-only anyway.

Well, that might seem small to some, but for me it's kind of thing I stop buying books for.

Streets of Silver is a monumental work and jam-packed with crunchy details on every type of business, merchant, artist, noble and politician imaginable. Well worth $30. Not high fantasy at all, either, just credible for a land where magic is possible (a few potion and scroll shops, very few demihumans or monsters).

Unfortunately, it only has 5 brothels, unlike Shelzar. I counted. :)

Yep can't walk around there without tripping over one. ;) In any case what ever floats your boat Sul. I know you and just hope you're still having fun. :)

I will agree that's probably NOT that mature or even close to being over 17, but I also don't think that it's for kids under 13 years old. (And I do think it's the entire book) Maybe 16-17 years old, but still not the kind of content you'd want your average starting out gamer (non-adult) reading just yet.

As I said don't think it was intentional. Just probably something that got miscommunicated down the line.

I'd hope not Zelda. Btw could you please email me. I want to discuss something with you in private.

So, what are the adventure outlines like?

Well one of them is the black dragon in the menagerie gets loose and starts causing major havoc. (Course I would have waited until he got to young adult... but oh well. ) Another is (and this is a favorite of mine) the High Priestess chooses your entire group to partipate in a one night private orgy. Course someone forgot to mention that she's trying to be assassinated by some people that want her dead... Then there's the old "a group of dopplegangers assume the party's identity and start causing havoc." Also a couple of "rebellious" chardunite priests ask you to take them around town for a honeymoon treat. They just neglected to mention they are on the lamb from their overfiend/superiors. :) Then there is the orcish cult of Thulkas, the Iron Band, trying to raise, via true ritual, a powerful fire elemental to burn the city to dust. Temple War is another idea they came up with. That's just some of the plot hooks in that section.

Hi Nightfall! I got that Shelzar city book the other day and I have to say i really like page 95 too ;) That is very cool.

The written content is excellent, IMO Lots of stuff to build adventures off of and great write ups on the NPCs and city locations.

but (there's always a 'but' isn't there?)

I was very dissapointed in the quality of the city maps. I was hoping for a full page layout but even if that wasn't possible I don't understand why they are so dark! I can barely see the different sections of the city on the first map. The numbered location map is a little better but still very, very dark (the numbers are white in black boxes so they are easy to see at least). Is this common for all copies of the book or did I just get a bad one? The other artwork in the book seems normal so I'd have to assume that it is the norm. Also any idea if SS&S will release a pdf Shelzar map sometime in the future (heck a book of just city maps of Scarn would be very cool - something along the lines of the Gazeteers would be ideal - inexpensive but lots of room for full page maps!)

Anyway, other than the maps the book continues the top notch writing quality I have come to expect from SS&S. Can't wait for Blood Bayou!!! (my players want to have anothe round with Jack of Tears :D )

*thinks your players must have a death wish if they want to take on the Jack*

Dunno about the maps. I don't handle that sort of stuff. (I can't even draw stick figures that good!) I will agree the one for the district is pretty funky, but felt the one for general locales wasn't too bad.

Glad you like 95. ;) Thanks Dave! ;)

They're just sore because of a recent brush they had with him and he made them all dance to his tune like trained monkeys (the col thing was that I didn't have the Termana Gaz yet but the way i ran Jack was nearly identical to the the way he's depecited in the short story in the Gazeteer - I must be psychic ;) )

Maybe I should make this suggestion (about a map book) over on the S&SS forum. My drawing skills sound about on par with yours - stick figures with abnormal bone structure ;)
