Shield Enchanting Confusion

So, you have to masterwork the item as a shield and a weapon?! What are you doing, sharpening the sides?! What about masterworking the spikes so you don't have to throw away an existing shield?

Do spikes do anything for the bashing enchantment? Perhaps a solid 1d10 ;)

Okay, I'm reaching here, but I don't understand master working it twice. My character has a +1 Darkwood shild, what do I have to do to make it a MW weapon?

I'm so confused! This just doesn't seem right.

I don't know. That's what I'm confused about.

Personally, I'll just add +150 gp until the Sage or Caliban says otherwise. :)

I do understand the enchantments, but not necessarily the masterworking. I mean, there are feats for shields all over the place. You would think they would develop them a little better! I'm just gonna go with it is masterwork for whatever reason and start saving my money for the Bashing enchantment.
