A rogue starting with 20 Dex (finishing with 28) wearing Elderhide armor with Two-Weapon Defense and Hide Specialization has:

10 + 9 + 5 + 1 + 1 = 26 base AC. (Enhancement bonuses and the rest should be the same.)

The paladin in Godplate w/ Heavy Shield and Plate Specialization has:
10 + 14 + 2 + 1 = 27 base AC.

There's the fixed math. That rogue is hurting in other abilities in getting that 20, but that's where he's going to top out. With +6 enhancement and +15 for 30th level, somewhere around 47 actual AC at 30th, right? The paladin should have 48.)
Thank you for fixing the math. Note that if the rogue drops his second weapon in favor of a heavy shield, he ends up with

10(base) + 9(dex) + 5(armor) + 2(shield) + 1(feat) = 27

giving us a reasonable cap on what a character's AC will be. Given that a warlock with no interest in defenses will have

10(base) + 1(dex or int) + 4(armor) = 15

for a 12-point spread, there's not much leeway if we still want monsters to both have a chance of missing him and have a chance of hitting the high-AC guys.
It still think it feels weird, if that's alright.
You're quite welcome to feel about it however you like, as long as we're all clear on how it works and why it works that way.
