You are levelling as an EK, right? Seem silly to go with Wis, yes, it is a good save but why not pick up Mage Slayer later for the occasion where you really have to make a save. I think is you are going all out on cantrip attacks then do it on the casting stat you are levelling up on. To not do that you will really have to crunch the number across the expected play progression.
EK doesn't really have enough spell slots to be an effective caster. Usually when I play an EK I am dumping Intelligence and maxing Charisma and using my EK slots to fuel Charisma spells I get on a multiclass dip or through feats.

Wisdom works too and so does Intelligence. I like Charisma for role play/skill reasons, Wisdom is probably the best choice for saves and Intelligence is the best choice if you want to actually use EK spells offensively (but you are not going to do this well).

You can use Shillelagh with Green Flame Blade and work it off of Wisdom.

My OP is getting the cantrip via EK.
I could get hex from fae touched.

Haven't made official house rule yet but I kinda ignore the restrictions on VSM for various subclasses. RAI vs RAW.

RAW you can make it work still with strict DM.

Disagree.
Shield, Mirror Image, Blurr, ect... don't care what your casting stats is.

And you don't have the slots levels to be worth casting damage spells. So those don't matter.

Which means your getting a much better saving throw at the cost of the occasional casting of a control spell like Sleep. But even then that means 1 less cast of Shield, and your action. So I would only do it if there was a clumped enemies.

Also, Ranger 1 gives quite a lot. Goodberry, Ensnaring Strike, 2 free Hunter's Marks, and a full spell levels.

I messed the build up. My initial idea had true strike via feat. I could use wisdom.

Then decided I could get it via EK while forgetting it gets it off intelligence.

Purpose of thread is to catch oopsies like that.

So original idea is.
Human
Magic initiate druid+wizard
Hex lvl 4 via fae touched or 6 if DMs a hard ass on VSM. Has option of using wisdom.

New idea. Hex via origin feat. Magic innate druid, true strike via EK.

But is getting hex worth it? Or ranger level splash and when do you splash for ranger. Hunters mark over hex.
