Ok, some of you may have noticed that I have been saying I'm going to start a modern campaign. I keep mentioning it and mentioning it but haven't done too much about it. Basically life has a bit more important things going on with finding a job, having fun in my new home (NYC), and such. However, I find my mind drifting to these campaign ideas, and which suppliments I need to pull it off.

1. Menace Manual just sounds good from what I've seen with my own eyes and what I've heard so it is on the list.

2. Urban Arcana; while I don't at all want to do a campaign with orcs and drow in modern setting I know it has incantations and that sounds neat. Whether or not it is worth it just for that or there is other worthwhile stuff in there I'm not sure.

3. OGL Horror from Mongoose. A bit honkin book that at first had me excited when I read a post about how well the supernatural stuff; spells, psionics and stuff were done. However, the cost may make this one a tad prohibitive.

4. Blood and Fist; I've been saying I'm going to get this one for awhile, and I know for sure I will be.

5. Spycraft; it seems that their rules on car chases and some other things have people happily pulling from it for their modern campaign. Also, the book looks pretty nice so it is also a good chance I'll get that one.

6. spycraft suppliments; not sure which if any, but maybe some that deal with psionics. Also kinda depends on which way my campaign slants...ie more special ops/Department 7, or more towards the Medallions d20 story hour, just normal people in a bad situation.

7. Dark Matter d20 splat/writeup whatever in this coming Poly which seems to be making everyone excited. I never got into Darkmatter but it seems like it would be a great resource and shouldn't break the bank.

8. Some sort of gun book that has a few more guns, and hopefully some info on penetration etc. Note sure if I really really want this, but I'd certainly like to have the option.

9. Modern Backdrops; 'cause again, lots of great word of mouth about it and while I haven't seen it in person people seem to like it a great deal and I could see myself using it.

10. I think that's it, but I'll leave 10 open in case I think of anything else :)

So, along with that, I am going to work on a new poison system (a la Takyris and others suggestions), think a bit about the VP/WP controversy and which I want in my game, maybe get the critical hit tables/charts/info from Ledded, and look a bit more at their spell casting system as well. I dunno if they have a psionic system though, but in any case.

So, have I left out anything? Anything else people can think of that they use that they feel is indispensible for helping them flesh out their world/campaign?

Thanks,

Tellerve

Hey bud, for the print editions of those books, are you gonna order them online? Or do you plan to go to a store?

I could ask alex over at kings games to order the print stuff for you (i think he already has some of it). He's ordering Blood and Fist and Martial Arts Mayhem for me.

If you want gun books, Ultra Modern Firearms by Green Ronin, and next month D20 Weapons Locker for d20modern by WOTC

Hey. Glad to hear you'll be picking up Modern Backdrops.
I certainly hope you find it useful.
And as an early pimpage... We're a 'GO' for Modern Backdrops 2. :)
Don't hold your breath, though... The author is preggers with our 4th kid. So, it's going kinda slow.

4?! Oh my, congrats. And while I don't have Modern Backdrops 1 yet, as I said I've heard it is good. So, I'm sure MB2 will be great as well and look forward to it whenever it comes out.

In the meantime, I'll enjoy your story hour :)

Depending on what kinda discount I get is where I order/pick them up from.

No local store will really give you a discount because they dont make enough selling books as is. For discounts your best bet is amazon, or frpgames. However you tend to "lose" that discount in shipping costs and end up saving no more then 1 or 2 bucks.

Thats my opinion, experience, anywhow. Since i dont save more then a buck, and the post office usually never delivers when im home (forcing me to go pick it up) id rather support my flgs (kings games) and try to encourage others to do so! :-D

If you go to the store and see Alex, tell him Arthur sent ya.

*gives dana the pimp of the month award*

not that there is anything wrong with that :-p

Dana, is there a pdf preview or what not of the book? I'm curious.

actually Amazon had free shipping on orders over $25 and decent discounts. Sorry to snub the "real" stores but I've been using the internet for better deals for a long time now and don't see myself stopping.

Of course, I do find myself visiting brick and mortar stores to peruse the books sometimes before I buy, which maybe is bad, but I don't get myself worked up over it.

You there's a free preview accessible on RPGnow.com It will be available on my website as well (without the need to set up any accounts), as soon as I fix some programming errors. If you don't have an RPGnow account and don't want the hassle of setting one up, I can manually send you a comp copy from RPGnow if you send me your email address.

I will warn you, the sampler is old (from last September), and only covers D20 Modern, Action!, Fudge, and Cyberthriller. Everything is in the process of being reformatted and expanded for the Compendium, with the addition of support for EABA, Prometheus, and an entirely new drop-in firearms combat system for D20 Modern.
