You there's a free preview accessible on RPGnow.com It will be available on my website as well (without the need to set up any accounts), as soon as I fix some programming errors. If you don't have an RPGnow account and don't want the hassle of setting one up, I can manually send you a comp copy from RPGnow if you send me your email address.

I will warn you, the sampler is old (from last September), and only covers D20 Modern, Action!, Fudge, and Cyberthriller. Everything is in the process of being reformatted and expanded for the Compendium, with the addition of support for EABA, Prometheus, and an entirely new drop-in firearms combat system for D20 Modern.
all i care about is d20 modern stats, no other system stats matter to me. It would be dead space for me. How much of the book is d20modern?

For each weapon or family of weapons, there is at least one page providing a written description real world performance data, technical information and historical notes, plus illustrations or photographs. This is followed by a page of stat blocks for each system covered by the book, along with any system specific special rules.

What does that entail exactly? Penetration values? Hit locations?

Thanks,

Revised rules for anti-armor military weapons that reduce the damage dice you'd have to roll while making the weapons properly potent against armored vehicles. Rules for antiaircraft weapons. More coarse damage values. Revised feats. Gunsmith class. Reasonable rules for sniper weapons, shotguns, & grenades. No more off the shelf mastercraft firearms; establish them with gunsmithing techniques. AP bullets actually pierce armor (ignore x points of personal armor, based on NIJ body armor specs, and no, this is not hardness), HP bullets would actually do a lot of damage. And most importantly, stats based on real world weapon performance, rather than the anecdotal nonsense used to create the stats in UMF and the D20 core rules. Probably more, since I keep going back and adding more minor tweaks to it.

huh, well, I went ahead and got the X-mas bundle for $18. And I have to say after looking through the .pdfs that there is certainly a lot of information there.

EDIT: Ok found the 1911 pistol, the SAW (yeah!), and some other fun weapons of our armed forces. And I'm seeing more there than I thought. The whole thing with some weapons having the "+" in the .pdf to make them expand and saying "stats" threw me as I thought there were only stats for those weapons. I was going to be annoyed. But instead they have them, just some for some reaons have "+"

I still am looking for the rules on penetration

Heh. The "+" is the fast forward to skip several pages of real information and jump ahead to the game stats.

Well, the penetration rules will be available when the compendium is finished. And don't worry, everyone who has bought a copy of Big Bang will get a coupon for varying discounts, depending upon how much they've bought of Big Bang in the past. This discount will top out at 80% for the electronic version, and probably 40% for the printed version.

Oh, I see...so when is the compendium set to be finished? This is the part that'll have the gunsmithing rules, more rules on snipers, shotguns, grenades etc etc. that I haven't found in what I have so far?

The compendium will be done early next month. And yes, it will have all the nifty new rules, all quite realistic and quite within the scope of the existing game mechanics.

Id be more inclined to buy a d20modern only version. Thats just me though. :-D The rest of the mechanics information is dead weight i'd rather not pay for.
