I think continuing BG3's story would be super hard for anyone not Larian, so it would be easier if BG3 Origin characters are reduced to Companion characters later in the game, and we get new origin characters, including more like Dark Urge vs Tav, but with different gimmicks, not just psychopath.

Completely new but with ties to the series' history.

Like a Dragon Age game, though, with your basic origin choices deciding your backstory before the game starts.

Man, I love the characters in BG3, but I'd say let's do a new story if/when a BG4 comes out. I feel like the characters in BG3 have great story arcs and I think I'd love to see some new peeps with new stories. I totally agree with others above who suggest having the old charcters show up as cool NPCs, though then you gotta worry about "That's not what happened in my story!" discrepencies from your BG3 playthrough.

Given that if one started development right now a new game would not be out before 2030, it should stand on its own with its own characters. It is ok for older characters to have cameos or as companions but new characters would be better.
