Should girls be allowed to play fighter characters

I would like to point out that the OP failed to post a second time in this thread. A lot of replies have been made.

She hasn't logged in since 1pm, when she posted, so she probably hasn't been sitting back and watching the responses accrue.

Since there's no reason to think that the original poster was anything but sincere, I'd appreciate folks keeping this on topic and appropriate.

My dm says that girls can only play wizards and clerics and classes like that. I want to play a paladin, but he says that only guys can be paladins.

Is this based upon the idea that a female cannot fight? I'm afraid that I'll have to disagree with you on that one. My 11-year-old daughter is only 4'1" tall and weighs a mere 65 pounds, but last weekend she managed to win two gold medals in a major karate tournament, in competitions against both genders. She is also a skilled archer, now ranked among the adults in the SCA East Kingdom's archery rankings.

I do not beleive that SHE thinks that, but her DM might infer that. The fact that she posted this thread would suggest that she thinks quite the opposite.

Hopefully, her DM can take a look at this thread and adjust his views...

Actually, archery has traditionally been an "appropriate for girls" pastime for quite some time in Western culture. Were your daughter's karate medals in point karate or full-contact?

Girls should be allowed to play anything they want (especially since there aren't enough gamer girls)! Point out to your GM the absurdity of allowing Humans to play any other race...
