Should I be proud?

Reynard

aka Ian Eller
So, I was just reading through the d20 future SRD -- trying to determine if I wanted to use that, or go with Alternity -- when I come across the following in the Helix Warrior advanced class:

Strong As An Ox
At 4th level and beyond, the Helix Warrior’s carrying capacity increases as if she were one size category larger (Large instead of Medium-size, for example).

For those who don't have the book, this originally appeared in the Gamma World d20 PHB. I know, because I wrote it (it was one of the new Strang Hero talents). I feel kinda tingly, especially since in GW it was not OGC, and now it is.

Nifty.

Very nifty, but it is possible it could have been parallel development. Did you get credit for it in d20 Future?

Cool. You wrote one of the few parts of GWD20 I really liked: the new Talent trees. Those have seen use in my Modern/Future campaigns.

One of the strange things about writing for WW/S&S -- and I assume everywhere, but my experience is limited -- is that there is no indication in a product exactly what portion any individual writer produced. In GWd20, frex, I wrote all the PC related stuff (except the advanced classes), including races, classes, skills, feats and equipment. I don't actually own d20 Future so i haven't seen if there is an OGL in the back or not, and if so is GWd20 listed. I found the ability in the SRD, while persuing that to see if i wanted to spring for d20 Fute and Apocalypse.

There's no OGL in d20 Future. Also, remember that White Wolf/Arthaus leased the rights to Gamma World (and Ravenloft too) under a separate license from WotC. At least in the case of Ravenloft (I don't have Gamma World), there is no OGL or any open game content declared in those products, and they can use the d20 logo without using the d20 license. It is quite possible in their agreement WotC has the right to use rules and material produced by WW/Arthaus for Gamma World without having to credit them.

EDIT: But yes, you should be proud of your work, because you have now been immortalized in the modern SRD. :)

Isn't this similar to the Half-Giant's Powerful Build?

And yes, you should be proud of your work.

I think so, though I think Powerful Build is a little more inclusive (includes using larger weapons, etc...), and I *think* that particular mechanic was created relatively recently in relationship to when I wrote my part of the GWd20 PHB.

For those that don't have GW, the talent tree only started with Strong as an Ox. At the second talent, you carried stuff as if you had greater strength, and at the third one you carried as if you were a quadruped. It was fun to write, just imagining how folks might make use of it. (I might be mixing up the order -- it has been quite a long time since.)
