I, for one, am untrustworthy in an environment with polls and basically few rules. When I used to post to Randomlings, -every- post was a poll, even if it was just a stream-of-consciousness set of answers to a non-existant question that was 100% unrelated to the thread.

I don't mind the polls in the off-topic forum, but I think that is because right now there are so few, when one shows up it almost feels like it has a legit reason. Does that make sense? Peopl only post polls in off-topic now if they think they really make sense for the topic at hand.

Were it opened up I could see it getting out of control and then there are way too many judgment calls for the mods as to whether a poll was really necessary or not. Then it falls rapidly downhill as people ask why the mods closed one poll and not the other.

So it may just be better to stick with the no polls stance in the long run.

This poll is a contradition to itself. It's going to implode in 5... 4... 3...
