Psion class is still in the lead, but to my surprise Psion as Sorcerer as Subclass is close on its heels. I'm surpised because it already has a psionic subclass the Aberrant Soul. I only added it because I saw a couple of fokks suggest it.

There's like 5 votes so far, I wouldn't take this seriously yet....

I'm ambivalent: psions should be a class if psionics are going to be different from spellcasting. At least as different as Pact Magic is from Spellcasting - which isn't a high bar.

But if they're not going to clear that bar (and I can think of lots of reasons why they wouldn't), a bunch of subclasses is the way to go.

I voted for Sorcerer subclass also, but I really very torn.

Psion's never were "high charisma arcanists". They were studious, disciplined, focused, and almost scientific in their development of Psionics.

So what would erase the issue for me would be a Sorcerer subclass that swapped Charisma for Intelligence. But basically mimicked the powers of the Wizard in this UA that was just released.

Either that or if this Wizard in the UA got rid of the spellbook and just had spells known instead. Hell, even made that psionic focus item they talk about act as your "spellbook"/dojre/Power Stone where you "mentally scribe" your new powers known, ala Power Stones

That would work for me too.

That actually makes sense as a solution to the Wizard the Psion issue I had, if they just made the Psifocus the Spellbook that would feel less weird thempn a regular spellbook.

I still prefer the Psion as a class, it was pretty good, with meat subclasses like the shaper amd the nomad.

I've been thinking about this... and my opinion has come up weird.

I think that for psionics in general, the subclass route has legs. It is very much like the old 1e variety - where anyone, of any class, could theoretically have psionic power. And so I'm cool with that.

I have never really liked mixing full-caster psions with full caster wizards and clerics, though. If there's someone who is fully devoted to psionics as their class... I'd rather see that done as the only form of magic in that world.

So, if you give me a psion and maybe a couple other psi-based full classes, I would be happy to run a psionics campaign. But otherwise, I don't need the psion at all. The subclasses are sufficient for my needs.
