Thinking about it, the only current "cost" of a ritual is the increased casting time, which makes it unsuitable to be used in combat and (less importantly) in a chase, while running away or in another time-limited situation.

That's not enough for me, because combat ideally only takes 1/3 of our adventures. In the other 2/3 rituals are essentially unlimited spells, and I don't like that because they take away part of the resource-management aspect from the game, which I like.

However, a simple tweak such as increasing the casting time of a ritual from 10min to 2 hours (or maybe even 1) will be enough to restore the resource-management aspect to almost all cases of exploration and interaction. Because you can easily often waste 10 minutes in front of a dungeon door, or before starting a conversation with someone, but not so easily 1 whole hour.
