-- so she was looking for a way to earn some big money, and she found it alright, but it was risky, and at the end she payed the ultimate price. --

im dming a group of 4 6th level pcs, played by 3 players, a fighter, a fighter, a fighter and a fighter, one of them wanted to buy this +4 buckler from some loser but did not have enough money, so she (played by a he) goes to the bunty office to see if theres any high profit bunty, there was, it involved killing a mad wizard. before they went to find him they wore told why this wizard is wanted dead: he burned down a town and killed 1200 people that lived there, including two 12th level fighters that tryed to stop him. so he went looking for him anyway, and dragd the other players along. they would not stand a chance against him. they found him alright, and they attackd him. there should always be punishment for foolishness, and 2 of the losers turned to stone before they ran for it (the extra one and the foolish leader).

so, what i wanted advice on was: should they just go to some wizard in the city, pay lots, and have them stone-to-flesh-ed? or should his char pay the ultimate price for the players foolishness? (as in, no high level wizard in town)

If there is some way in the nearest city to pay for stone to flesh spells or a caster to come out and cast it, then you can't really say no. But I would try to warn them that some opponents should not be tackled.

Stone to Flesh, is fairly risky in itself, especially to lower level players with low saves. So there's the possibility that they'll pay the price anyway, even if you do let them attempt to save the party.

If you want them to survive, the better way to go would be Break Enchantment.
