If there was only one class, how would it be designed?
I haven't though about it in detail, but something like this:
Vitality: d8
BAB: as Jedi Consular
Saves:
skill points: 6 plus INT mod
class skills: Diplomacy, Knowledge, Profession, Sense Motive,
Read/Write Language
starting feats: Force Sensitive, blaster pistols, simple weapons,
Exotic Weapon proficiency (lightsabre),
specials: 1 Force Training
2 Force Training
3 a bonus Force feat
4 Force Training
5+ a bonus Force feat
I would intend, in developing this class, to make it markedly weaker than the existing Jedi classes. It would be designed to be beefed up by multiclassing with Soldier for BAB and bonus combat feats, or multiclassing with an interpersonal class (to be added) for interpersonal skills. I would replace the lightsabre special abilities with versions of combat feats, such as allowing a lightsabre to use Power Attack without the STR requirement, allowing the Combat Expertise bonus to defense to count against ranged weapons for a skilled lightsabre user with the 'Sense' feat, etc. This would encourage Jedi warriors to multiclass with soldier for bonus feats.
Under this scheme Jedi would outclass other classes to a lesser degree, and most characters would not get their third 'Force Training' feat until seventh or perhaps even eighth level: it would be more of a landmark. Or a character could concentrate of Force studies at the cost of reduced ability in combat or negotiations.
