I always love to get down into the weeds into how we prep and run our games. So, show your real-world prep notes! No shaming! No criticism! Just us sharing what we put together to run our games.

Here's my one-page prep notes for my game tonight! I have some Dyson maps I'm not showing but these are it. I prep my notes in Obisidian and I have a custom css for the layout when I print to PDF.

I’m a mind-mapper. This is an example of the session prep for an instalment of my Savage Worlds Lost Colony campaign which ran for about a year. There is more detail at the ends of all those branches on the PCs, NPCs, and other sessions, which I have folded away. But for that specific session, all that is folded is the enemy stats.

In some ways prep is easier for me as I am often riffing of published material. But I picked this bit specifically as it was a full session I wrote as an ‘interlude’ between other, plot-relevant sessions.

My “notes” for the next session are upwards of 20 pages, which is typical for big games, and I am jealous and impressed by how efficiently you get it onto one.
How long are your sessions and do you find yourself using all 20 pages? What do they generally look like if you had to write an outline?
