So this is the, you now have no reason to play a fighter class. Named blade went from just a bonus to hit to a bonus to hit and damage, the same as weapon master. I am trading possible more carrying space (which your mount can give you), and advantage on rarely used check for a great party survival ability and a mount.

It's starting to feel like a bit of both. It started with a little lack of focus, but it feels like it's stepping on Fighter too.

Oh, that kind of balance. Yeah, maybe.

The argument that "Well Paladins are a kind of Knight, so it makes to include Knight things" could be extended to "Well Knights are a kind of Fighter, so it also makes sense for the Paladin to include Fighter things."

No. Just, no. Not in Shadowdark.

Shadowdark isn't a game where you get to have everything that might conceivably be part of a concept. If you want that, go play 5e. And since you can't have everything...you only get a few things...they should really express the essence of that class.

Yeah, feels overboard at first blush.

Fighter bonuses are approximately twice Paladin bonuses.

Lance is much improved. Statistically you're probably still better off attacking with your named blade, but hoping for a crit...however mathematically unsound a strategy...will still be fun.

Yeah, agreed.
