"Shrinking" the new classes from 20- to 10-level advancement

How would one go about converting the 20-class standard D&D classes into a d20 Modern-esque 10-level advancement? I'm specifically interested in doing so for the Warlock class, but I'd like to see some of the more numbers-savvy folks take a crack at this.

A few questions to help clarify what you're trying to do:

Are you planning on giving the "shrunk" classes prerequisites (ala D20 Modern's Advanced Classes), or is this a global mechanics change (no more 20-level base classes at all)?

Also, do you plan on limiting spellcasting/invocation advancement to that which could be obtained by a 10th-level character (5th-level spells/lesser invocations), or are you using the normal caps (9th-level spells/dark invocations)?

Sorry what do you actually try to achieve? :D

What do you want to keep identical to 10 levels and what identical to 20 levels?

If you want all class abilities, all spells, full BAB, and all feats as in 20 levels shrunk in 10 levels, your 10th level characters will be simply 20 levels characters with half hit points, and approx half saving throws, half skill ranks, half caster levels. Does this sound like your target?

Unless you award double skill points, saving throws bonuses, BAB and the like. Essentialy, you'd have a 10th level character that's exactly like a 20th level one.
And what's the point of doing that? Well, not much, but I guess begginers to the game would find it more simple, since spell levels, sneak attacks and some other abilities are now on par with level. Also, you bring out more of the diferences between classes with each level up: a barbarian would get 2-24 HP, much more than the sorcerer with 2-8. Now fighters get double BAB than wizards. Yes, that already happened before - but now even the wizard get better at fighting when leveling up - again much more appealing to beginners.
It could also be good for fast paced games, since it would save you in between game time for calculating new stats on the other 10 levels.

Not very helpful to the OP but I would rather see the existing power levels stretched out to about 30 to 40 levels, and the time spent within each level stretched out a bit as well.

Just a random thought.... carry on now.

More specifically, I would like to see something like the way the Mage and Shaman are handled in the "Advanced Class" section of d20 Modern/Urban Arcana. The Mage, Cleric, Druid, and (I think) something like Favored Soul (Mystic?) are handled this way; I, of course, would allow these classes to be available at 1st level rather than going through x levels of a "generic" class [which puts a thought in my head about the three "basic" classes of Expert, Warrior and Adept, though...]

Does that clear it up some? :D
