plus, since they're treated as thrown weapons for all other purposes, you add your strength bonus to the damage!

Yes, you too can create a 2nd edition flashback with your 18 strength Monk using Flurry of Blows to throw two shuriken for more average damage than a longsword. (2d2+8!)

They still suck... might as well just use a sling. Twice the (negligable) damage, 5 times the range, cheaper ammo, and you can enchant the sling.

I can totally picture a Halfling monk with a +1 wounding frost sling with flurry+rapid shot...

You can't Flurry of blows with the sling, it takes a Move Action (that provokes an AoO) to reload it, and you don't add your strength bonus to damage (but a strength penalty would still apply).

the only benefit to shuriken (was) that you could get 3 attack rolls with one attack.
Therefore, it was an excellent means of poison delivery, and if you had something that granted extra damage to all attacks (like Divine Might and the FR Divine Defender, or whatever it was called) it added up quite nicely.

Now, it's a completely useless weapon.
(with the possible exception of a monk with Flurry + Rapid Shot, but that's not too effective)

Yes, you do. Page 113: "A character gets no Strength bonus on damage rolls with a projectile weapon unless it's a specially built composite shortbow, specially built composite longbow, or sling."

At short range, a flurry of shuriken would in many circumstances do more damage than a single crossbow bolt or sling bullet. For non-monks, it's useless, but so are all the other monk weapons.

Sorry, your right. I read that sentence and thought it said "A character gets no Strength bonus on damage rolls with a projectile weapon unless it's a specially built composite shortbow, composite longbow, or sling.". Which in hind sight is odd since there are no specially built slings.
