Curious, I dont know where-maybe its my imagination; but did it ever say anywhere that creatures that were already sickened could be elevated to nauseated by another sickening effect, the same way fear escalates?

To my knowledge, that's not a general rule. Some specific effects might work like that, but that would be stated explicitly in their descriptions.

Not impossible, but i've never seen such a thing... yet...

To the OP: Are you sure you are not confusing it with Exhausted/Fatigued ?

No I know if Exhaustion/Fatigue as well as levels of fear. It just fees like something is missing with Sicken/Nausea. It might be a few specific spells out there that mention them together, but it seems like they should not be totally disconnected.

i stumbled on this feat while going through cityscape...

I think this might be what you are looking for!

[GENERAL]

You have greater resilience to illness and foul odors than most people.

Prerequisite: Endurance, CON 13

Benefit: You reduce the effects of sickening and nausea by one step. You cannot become nauseated.

If you are exposed to an effect or condition that would normally make you nauseated, you become sickened instead.

If an effect or condition would normally sicken you, that effect is negated.

Rulebook: CityScape (p. 64)

I found several spells that nauseate the target on a failed save, but sicken on a passed save, for example Caterwaul (Complete Mage) and Bewildering Visions (Complete Champion).

Other than that, sickening and nauseating are separate things and can apply at the same time. Note that nausea doesn't apply any penalties to your rolls, it just prohibits any actions other than single move actions. So under some circumstances, sickening might be worse than nauseating.

Actually, yes, this is discussed in a 3e book: Heroes of Horror, IIRC.

Unfortunately my copy is not at hand, but as I recall they discussed making several different condition tracks similar to the one for fear effects.

EDIT: Here we go, spread around page 60-61:

"You can treat dazed, stunned and paralyzed as a spectrum from least to most severe..."

"You can treat fatigued, exhausted and staggered as a spectrum from least to most severe..."

"You can treat sickened, nauseated and disabled as a spectrum from least to most severe..."
