Sidewinder & D20 Future

Just off the top of my head:

For Skills: Add "Computer Use" back in and add a new class to the "Operate Vehicle" skill "Operate Vehicle (starships)".

For Feats: Add back "Burst Fire" "Gear Head" and the "Vehicle Expert" tree (with a prereq. of the proper "Vehicle Proficiency" feat, and replacing any references to "Drive" or "Pilot" with "Operate Vehicle (xxx)")

And just because I don't like the idea that a groundling with ranks in Navigate should be able to freely apply them to Astronavigation without penalty, I'd either make a seperate "Astronavigation" skill, or perhaps make the regular Navigate ranks only apply to Astronavigation if the character has the appropriate "Starship Operation" feat. I'm still in an internal debate on this one.

Those suggestions seem reasonable. It's nice to see a DHR person chime in on this question. Thanks.

Anyone have anything else to add?

Well I have another question...

Could all the equipment and weapons that are in both books be used together as is stat-wise? Or would changes need to be made?

Yes. We maintained the same "damage curve" philosophy in S:R, so the weapons will work together. But don't blame us if you run into a Rifleman with 2 Rail guns! *Shudder*

I just recently started a Firefly game for my group and I'm using elements from D20 Modern, D20 Future and Sidewinder: Recoiled. It is really just a matter of deciding what you want to use and mixing and matching. The three books are pretty much interchangable. It really depends on what type of setting you want.

For my Firefly game, I am using the rules from D20 Future that I believe work with the setting (some that I have modified as needed) and some of the advanced classes that I believe fit the setting. I'm using a few bits from D20 Modern, including the Soldier advanced class and some of the mundane equipment. From Sidewinder: Recoiled I am using some of the equipment including a few guns that I have simply renamed and three advanced classes that I believe fit the Firefly universe very well, Gunslinger, Preacher and Sawbones. I've also managed to include information from several sources around the web, mostly stuff from Firefly fansites and the like, plus some equipment that can be found in a Savage Worlds Firefly conversion.

I think it just boils down to setting. If you want a western in space, the Modern/Future/Sidewinder rules should work well. Just pick and choose the rules that you want, throw them together and mix!

Teflon Billy had a thread on this about a month back... he decided that d20 Future wasn't for him when trying to run a firefly game but never went into more detail.
