Sidewinder: Recoiled vs OGL Wild West

All the rules necessary to create a character are there, but the d20 license precludes a direct discussion of how it is done (as it precludes an experience level chart).

According to the STL Guide 5.0 :

"Applying the effects of Experience to a Character does not include creating or modifying an experience point chart or defining a new class (including describing what benefits that class provides at each level)."

In the spirit of your answer, however, you're correct.

I have no exposure to OGL Wild West so cannot contrast with it.

I didn't care all that much for the original Sidewinder as I felt it was a little narrow when it came to breadth of the character creation rules. I think that Sidewinder: Recoiled really benefited from the D20 Modern conversion, as it forced them to consider other western archetypes and helped fill out the character rules nicely.

As Brad has said, I won't give an opinion on which is better since I'm probably a bit biased as well. However, I will say that although Sidewinder: Recoiled uses the d20 Modern system, virtually everything you need to play and run the game is in there. The only things absent are character creation and advancement rules which we couldn't add per the d20 license. So it's nearly a complete game in itself.

And what they could not include you can pretty much get from the SRD's that are free from WotC :)

Or you could get the D20 Modern Pocket Player's Guide from Mongoose for $19.99 or less (it's only $15.95 at www.lonslair.com)

I really like Mongoose's stuff most of the time, However, SW:R is a far better product IMHO than OGL:WW.....
