Signature Spell

What do you all think about this?

Signature Spell (Feat, Wizards only): Prerequisite: Spell Focus (School from which spell belongs), Spell Mastery (Signature spell must be one chosen). Benefit: For a wizard, a signature spell becomes a part of their self. It becomes a spell-like ability that can be cast once per day for every 3 arcane levels (starting at level 1). The spell is cast as if by a wizard one level higher. In addition, the wizard gains the Greater Spell Penetration with the signature spell even if the wizard does not have the spell penetration/ greater spell penetration feats. If a wizard also has Greater Spell Focus (for the school that the signature spell belongs), the wizard can modify the signature spell with any metamagic feat known at will (limit of one).

Are M, F and/or XP components still required for the signature spell once it becomes SLA?

Do you really want the party wizard to have three Maximized Time Stops available each day? What about three Quickened Meteor Storms?

Signature Spell (as published) is already pretty good. This is a bit more of a power boost than it needs.

For the standard campaign, this appears incredibly overpowered. YMMV, but I wouldn't allow your feat in my own campaign.

For a similar example, take a look at the special ability available to the Archmage prestige class - they permanently lose spell slots to turn a spell into a spell-like ability, and they don't automatically gain any extra benefits (such as Spell Penetration) with the ability. Yet, my sorcerer/archmage took this ability twice because it's so good.
