Signs your DM is an imcompetent twit.

Hong and Poster Bard:

Knock off the crap. This board doesn't exist for you to chase around and persecute someone for any reason. If you disagree with his ranting, then ONE post will be sufficient. There is no need or call for an extended flogging.

It ain't just DocM's computer time you're sucking up with bad manners, it's mine and everyone elses too. Don't like DocM? Too freaking bad. Find another thread to frequent.

DocM, sounds like your DM and other players are idiots, but they like it that way. All I can suggest is that you find another DM and/or be a DM yourself.

Please don't try and make something flamable out of what I've posted. I've posted my view and only posted again to clear up the false assumptions that were attributed to my post. Censoring someone is not a pretty thing and you should not be advocating it. No one is losing any computer time so please stop acting like posting more than once is some sort of violation of the board rules or of anyone's rights. That is what smacks of bad manners.

Hey Poster Bard, I did not consider your posts to be insulting or trolls. You did though make a few statements without knowing all the facts.

Not a big deal at all.

Thanks DocM. I really wasn't trying to be rude and I wish I hadn't been singled (doubled :D ? ) by that censorship fellow.

I really do think you should try out DMing. People who have strong opinions of how to run a game usually make pretty good DM's. Have you tried it? You might wind up being a great one! :)

I have DM'd many times. Sometimes though you just like to sit back and play.

It has everything to do with it. It has to do with the DM throwing foes at us that are well outside our league in power and then running them so dumb that we kill them without a party member every going unconcious.

Case in point: I am running a Star Wars mini-campaign. So far, our PC's have gained a level with Every Game we have played. So far, the PC's are up to 8th level, and we have played seven games - one for each level. When we next meet, they will be 8th level.

Is this insane? Not at all. I am running it with the intention that this is a "mini-series" campaign. We do not spend as much time with it as with our D&D campaigns, so we are zooming through it fairly quickly. There is a definite plot and goal in mind, as the PC's struggle with finding a solution for the Yuuzhan Vong. There IS one, but the players must peice together the clues they have to find it. So far, they haven't made certain connections, but things are about to move along a little quicker, and they are going to have to start REEALY keeping their eyes open, or they may miss the important stuff.

It is a campaign with a definite beginning, middle, and end. We have just passed the middle, and things are looking pretty dark now.

If the advancement fits the game, then it is not inappropriate. As you noted, DM's that throw really powerful yet "dumb" foes at heroes are not helpful and are building up false expectations in their players, which will NOT help them if they ever have to play under another DM with sterner, more mainline actions.

He shouldn't have lumped you in with Hong, but it's not censorship to ask someone to stop being a jerk.

What he said. It ain't censorship to ask someone to stop being a jerk.

And being a jerk (for example, no specific allegation here) is not free speech, nor is this board required in any way to guarantee "free speech".

I'm just a guy at a party walking into a nasty conversation and asking two people to tone it down.

Nothing wrong with whining.....

In fact, i like to whine about things myself, makes me feal better.

I can sypathize with you 100% DocM. I've been running into many of the same problems that you did with your lame duck DM.
In ablility to run monsters well, which leads to leveling up too quickly. The it's my story/campiagn world syndrome that many dm's seem to suffer from. He has a hard time balancing role-play with action so at times there will be long spell were we do nothing but roleplay, which would be fine, but he's horrible with xp for roleplay. What ends up happening is we'll have times when we go up multiple levels rapededly, and times were it takes for ever to go up a level.

The biggest problem is his case of DM's wife/girlfriend syndrome. His wife, aside from being undefeatable in any cercomestance, is the only one not heald back by the it's my campaign problem. Specifically she has characters that basically rule every kingdom in the campaign( notice i didn't say npc's).

None of the players are happy either, the problem is we can't just tell him were to stick it, because he's a good guy and one of my/our best friends and we've been playing with him for years.

I would also like to say i've noticed a tendacy among DM's to get real defensive and refuse to change thier ways of running things in order to keep the game fun for all. Most DM's also refuse to addmit any shot comings.

I'll addmit it, i think as DM's go I'm crap, thats why i want to play. I would also like to point out that i did DM for a lot of years, the main problem bring i couldn't live up to my own expectations.

7. Campaign started with the "your all in jail for crimes you didnt commit" routine.
Well, not going to get into the flames over various things. But I will say this is not a sign of a clueless GM. This was the start of an excellent campaign I was in a few years ago. But the campaigns starting over every few months would certainly get annoying.
