Silven Idol – Silven Publishing's Competition for the Next Great RPG Designer

Silven Idol – Silven Publishing's Competition for the Next Great RPG Designer

Want to break into RPG design? Have a great idea, but can't find a publisher? Silven Publishing is looking for our next RPG designer. In this tournament, you must wow our judges with d20 proposals, angling to gain a writing contract with Silven. We will only consider proposals for settings, expansions and adventures. The winner receives a Silven writing contract for a full length RPG supplement.

The event begins with a short Silven Q&A. In this round, you have 3 minutes to sell your idea to our three judges. If you make it to subsequent rounds, you must be prepared to thoroughly explain and defend your idea, while withstanding the criticism of our multi-talented trio of judges – Elizabeth R.A. Liddell (editor in chief of the Silven Trumpeter), Nash Devita (Silven Gen Con Correspondent), and Eytan Bernstein (PR & Marketing Manager of Silven Publishing).

Regardless of your placement, you will receive a prize pack. The prizes increase in value with each subsequent round. Admission to the entire 3-day event is $6.00, less than the value of the prizes given to even those contestants eliminated in the first round. In order to compete, participants must be available on Thursday August 10 from 2:00-5:30 p.m. The subsequent two rounds will take place on Friday August 11 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and Saturday August 12 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.

To get tickets go to Silven Idol Registration. After you log in, click on "Search the Gen Con 2006 Event Catalog." In the "Game ID field," enter RPG01102 (or simply type the word ‘Silven’ into the "Title Contains" field.) Spectators are welcome to watch the event, especially the Q&A, but only ticketed attendees will be allowed to participate in the contest. Before you attend, make sure you are prepared to present a 3 minute presentation on your idea for a game setting, RPG supplement, or other full-length publication.

Participants should understand that the judges will be completely honest with their opinions, and should not take personal offense if their idea is rejected. All contestants must be 18 or over to participate. Silven welcomes the participation of sponsors who will be included in media packages, advertising, and prize distribution.

For more information about the competition, or to inquire about becoming a sponsor, please contact Eytan Bernstein (PR & Marketing Manager, Silven Publishing) at eytan@silvenpublishing.com.
