Did you notice the delicious, warm, and spicy aroma wafting in the air today? That slight chill in the breeze, carrying notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger? Did you see the lines of minivans and teenagers outside your local coffee shop? Did you notice the sudden abundance of white coffee cups, each with a signature cardboard collar across the middle?

That's right, the Pumpkin Spice Latte has returned to Starbucks, which means my Annual Pumpkin Spice RPG Writing Contest has returned to EN World! This year, the theme is Pumpkin Spice Latte--or PSL, as the kids today are calling it.

The Pumpkin Spice Latte RPG Contest
Who: RPG fans, creative writers, artists, and lovers of all things Pumpkin
What: This is a writing/art/creativity contest for RPG fans
Where: Post your entry right here, in this thread
When: Entries are due before midnight, October 1st (12:00 a.m. PST)
Why: a chance to win bragging rites, a gift certificate, and maybe other prizes.

In a nutshell: you create something for your favorite tabletop role-playing game, and post it into this thread. Then on October 1st, I'll gather up all of the submissions and put them into a two-week survey for all members of ENWorld to vote on. The entry that has the most votes on Sunday, October 15th will win first pick of the prizes! The entry with the second-most votes gets second pick of the prizes, and so on, until all prizes are gone.

Here's the official rules:
  • Submissions must be posted into this thread.
  • Once it has been posted, you cannot edit it, for any reason. Submissions that have been edited (visible by an automatic watermark in the lower-right corner of the post) are disqualified. So don't forget to proofread!
  • All submissions must include "Pumpkin," "Spice," and/or "Latte" in some way: it can be the name of a character or NPC, it can be an actual spice for an actual beverage, it can be the MacGuffin that drives a whole adventure...it's all up to you. The more frequent and creative your use of Pumpkin, Spice, and/or Latte, the better!
  • Your submission must be something that can be used in a tabletop RPG of your choice. Anything goes: it can be a new magic item or spell, it can be an encounter, a battle map, a custom mini, a character, a whole adventure...again, this is all up to you. And it can be for any version of D&D, or Pathfinder, or Call of Cthulhu, or Honey Heist, or any other tabletop RPG game you want! It can even be a whole new RPG of your own design! Remember that your entries will be judged by your peers, though, so take that into consideration.
  • Only one submission per user. If you post more than one entry, be sure to delete the first one before October 1st...because only the first one will be entered and the rest will be ignored.
  • You must submit your own original work: no plagiarism, no AI-generation, no copying previous entries, none of that nonsense.
  • Entries posted after midnight on October 1st (12:00 a.m. PST) will be ignored, so don't be late!

The Prizes
To be determined. Last year I was able to conjure up a handful of prizes, and this year will be no exception. There will be a whole assortment of pumpkin-spice themed prizes for our participants to choose from. But right now, at this very moment, I only have two:

Sorry for the radio silence, work had consumed me for a couple of weeks there. But I've been around, and I've been busy!

I've managed to add another prize to this little contest: a two-pack of pumpkin-themed adventures for your 5E D&D game: "Rise of the Pumpkins" and "Wickerjack". These will be sent to the lucky winner via an e-redeem code from DriveThruRPG.

So now there are three prizes to be won! I plan to add loads of other prizes as the contest goes on--I've been scouring the internet for pumpkin spice dice for years now to no avail--so keep your eyes on this page. And remember: when the votes are all tallied on October 15th, the entry with the most votes will get first pick of the prizes. The second-most votes gets second pick, and the third-most votes gets the third pick, and so on.
