Silver Bullets Chapter 1:L'Arruolamento

Monique

"You would be working in a team, unless you chose more solo-intended missions. Still, you would be working with a unit of other mercenaries between missions at least." The man signals the dealer as well, turning around to face Monique. "You will be working in Rome, although your missions may well take you other places."

"Rome. The eternal city. C'est fantastique, I always wanted to learn italian. When will you need me there?"
Monique waits for the croupier to make his game before she leaves the table, confident as always she would win.

Agreed then. When's my flight?

Jean-jacques uses the rest of the afternoon to make a few phonecalls. He tries to get some info on where to buy semi-legal carparts in Rme without too many questions asked, a few thrustworthy dealers willing to sell some weapons, and to locate the nearest car-junkyard where a few extra wrecks wouldn't be noticed, for a small fee.

Cyrus

Cyrus's sleep isn't disturbed again, and he wakes up about 11:00 in the morning. Little seems to have changed.

Monique

The man shrugs. "It would be best if you came as soon as possible." The croupier goes over, and Monique wins a small amount of money. Not enough to impact her Wealth bonus

Jean-Jacque

"You'll have to take care of arrangements to get there yourself, but we'll reimburse you. Contact me at this adress." The man scribbles down an adress on a piece of paper, then strolls out.

Jean-Jacque finds a couple of places to buy car parts in Rome, and locates a few municipal junkyards.

"Why wouldn't I be suspicious? You show up here, in the middle of the night, asking me to join a merc organization because I have the 'skills' you require. It's not like I get that every day; usually just on Tuesdays."

James smiles wryly. "So what field do you need an expert in? I have many expertises and am familiar with many types of sciences, arts, history, etc. I'm not trying to be difficult, I just want to know exactly what I'm getting myself in to."

OOC - I posted this on the 10th and seemed to have been skipped a few times since then.

Monique gathers her fiches and gesture the mysterious man to follow her to the bar. While leaving, she casually slips some fiches into the croupier's hand whispering: "Je voudrais vous remercier pour votre discrétion. Je suis presque sûre que ces-ci vous aideront à oublier ce que vous avez écouté ce soir. Au revoir." (I'd like to thank you for your discretion. I'm quite sure these will help you forget what you heard tonight.)
Then she takes a very little notepad out of her handbag and quickly scribbles with a silver pen 'HOTEL SAVOY NEXT TUE' then she hands it to the man.
"Will I see you again, monsieur?"

James

Sorry...missed your post.

The stranger chuckles darkly. "So it appears you have some sense in you. That will help you. We think your scientific knowledge could be useful, but more importantly we felt it may be important to have someone who works in the field of ancient languages and relics...you never know when skills such as these could come in handy."

Monique

The croupier nods swiftly at Monique's gift. The man says "You should meet me in Rome, at this location." He removes a folded piece of paper from his pocket and hands it to Monique. "We'll give you instructions from there."

"I see. Well, a little fieldwork sounds interesting right now. I've been cooped up in here for the past month looking at this damned tablet. I can always study it later. It's survived this long without me."

James extends his hand. "You have yourself a deal. What do we do now? Do you say 'Look over there!' and club me in the back of the head when I'm not looking or do we do this in a civilized manner?" James smiles again, amused at his little joke and thinking of that episode of the Simpsons where Homer keeps getting blackjacked by NASA. God he loves that show.

"By the way, I didn't catch your name."

"That's because I didn't give it," the figure says slickly. He pulls a small, folded piece of paper out of his pocket and hands it to James. On it is an adress in Rome. "Meet me there as soon as possible. We'll discuss what to do after that then."

Do I recognize the address or even the neighborhood?

"Touche. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some packing to do."

James turns and walks into the darkness towards the back door of the office. "I'm sure you can find your way out."

I'm not sure if James can afford a first class ticket to Rome with a Wealth of 9. If not, he will use some connections to upgrade his seat.

Monique makes an absent-minded gesture with her hand... and the piece of paper disappears. She can't help but smile at her little trick, as she asks "Is there anything else I should know?"
