Silverthorne Games releases Book of Templates - Deluxe Edition

Okay, I churned out this little beastie for my 20th level group in my Drow rogues gallery thread:

Jumping Jehosephat!! That's one nasty critter! Backing him up with drow and/or other lizardy mutants would definitely be a problem. BTW, you could make a two-headed mutant lizardman first (using that template from the book, too) and then bump him up with the dreadnaught and aberrant templates. Of course, if you like the ettin flavor, go for it! I like it, Psion!

Pretty scary. I can't figure out where he got 160 hp (10d8+60 = 140). Is this creature part of a group your poor adventurers will encounter? Will he be with Himoust in the lizard hatchery? (Now that is scary.) Thanks for sharing Psion!

:D

Good catch.

Himoust will be in the lizard hatchery, specifically to make it more difficult for the players... the PCs are a wrecking crew and need the challenge. ;) I'll replace time stop with The Road Less Travelled, which makes it so that the caster can chose to be at either of two places for the purposes of resolving any effects. Area effect spells work great against this, but the PCs (who have a lizardfolk among them) will have to make that decision.

I have not decided to place the Abberant Lizard Brute in the hatchery yet, but he will certainly be closeby. This means that if the players play their cards right, they can avoid confronting them both at the same time. Of course, if Himoust detects trouble, he can buff up, offer supporting fire, and retreat to the hatchery if things go south.

Considered that, but I needed him to be big, too, and 10 HD was a better starting point for characters of the level I am running this at. Well, I could have also buffed him up with barbarian levels, but this way was easier.

Then again [Tim Curry as the Cardinal]Rage does sound good.[/Cardinal]

Yay!

I've been waiting for this for forever, it seems. But now that I've got it... hmm... what to do?

A Fallen Dreadnought War Trumpet Archon? He Fell for love of the Marilith below... too bad she Rose for love of him.

A Redeemed Relentless Marilith, with some phoenix aspects tossed in? The deadly nemesis of the above, who just happens to (almost) possess her critical weakness (the greatsword of a fallen trumpet archon, blessed by a paladin)?

A Heightened Half-Medusa Nymph Argent Servitor? (Glaedra to her friends)

An Enchanted Cloaker Siphon Beast? A rather decorative guardian of the Fey Courts.

A Woundmender Skinrug Guardian made from a Displacer Beast? "I thought your rug was over there, but it feels like I'm standing on it..."

A Dragon-Blooded Half-Vampire Gnoll Voidspawn? Just add the Apocalyptic template and the world is gone!

I love templates. Whee!

All good ideas, if you ask me. As the immortal Sean Astin (the fine actor who plays Samwise Gamgee and Rudy) once told me, "You don't have to choose!" :) Make them all, my friend and revel in the joy of template-ness! :D

The BoT is great! I only have one complaint: it needs bookmarks. There is so much info in there (great!) that it takes a lot of scrolling to find what you're looking for (not so great).

Btw, a week or so ago I noticed that half-dragons (red) get a breath weapon that does 6d8 damage in a 30' cone, regardless of size! I suddenly had visions of a swarm of half-dragon hummingbirds descending on a village. <shudder> Then yesterday I was really pleased when I saw the BoT's variant rule for breath weapons based on size. Woohoo! Now I don't have to make the variant rule.

?

My copy has bookmarks, at least in the bigger "fancy" file anyhow...

Yes, the colour file should have bookmarks. I don't believe the "printer friendly" one does, but it will. In the meantime, the pagination is the same, so use the bookmarks from one and print from the other.

Glad you liked the new breath weapon rules. I'll pass the praise on to Khur for you (he wrote that bit) :D

Cheers!
Ian

Ah, so it does! After seeing that the only apparent difference between the two was the border, I defaulted to using the printer-friendly version. That was before I looked for bookmarks. Well, so much for my only complaint. ;)
