Silverthorne Games releases Book of Templates - Deluxe Edition

Greetings, all!

I have returned from my weekend trip and am now available for public discussion, questions, floggings, etc.

A few notes to consider:
Book of Templates Deluxe Edition was always supposed to be a 3.0e affair. Since the original BoT was 3.0, we thought this was logical. Plus, our production delays lasted well beyond the announcement and arrival of 3.5e.

That being said, there is a 3.5e version in the works and we'll have our office gnomes working on that ASAP, as Khur mentioned.

As KF72 noted, the upgrade to 3.5 will not cost our loyal PDF customers anything. So, again, you get both the 3.0 version and the 3.5 version for the same low price. Sound good?

Also, as KF72 adroitly pointed out, if we had decided to convert to 3.5 during production, you would all still be waiting for the product. Gack!

We do encourage those of you who would like to write a review to do so. Even if you don't like the product. We are always looking for ways to improve our products, so let us know. We thank all of you who have said such wonderful things about the Deluxe Edition on this thread, too! The kind words definitely help keep us going!

Finally, for those who would like to let us know about any errata in the book, please email them to me directly at silverthornegames@yahoo.com. We will review and compile them as soon as possible.

Again, for those of you who are due a free upgrade, hang in there. They will be coming at you this week (I hope to have them all sent out by Monday afternoon, but we'll cross our fingers on that one!). So ye shall have them soon! :)

Cheers!
Ian

I just got mine today, very, very nice. I have already printed up two of the undead templates for my game this week. One of the things that I like about PDFs is the ability to print only part of a supplement, rather than have to lug everything in the book whether I need it or not. The Ultimate books by Mongoose would be much more tempting to me were I able to selectively print needed sections. This is important because I carry everything for the game in a pack and walk to where I run the game. (About a mile and a half...)

The time spent on layout was time well spent, it is a very nice looking product. I did however find that I preffered using the printer friendly version even while reading on the screen. The illustrations, while sparse, were to the point.

All in all, I am glad to have it.

I ponied up for a copy, and I just thought I'd say: very nice. A lot of neat concepts, some immediately useful. (Which you may see show up in a brainstorming post in the rat barstardy forum soon...)

So when can we expect a review, Psion? :D

Thanks for the compliments. I have to agree with your philosophy on PDFs. You don't have to worry about someone spilling soda on your prints, either. You can just reprint! It's also cool to print that prestige class your using for your character and just stick it in the folder with the other PC info. So many useful things!

Thanks Psion! Can't wait to see what you come up with.

:D

This is the official notice that all the complimentary upgrades have (finally) been emailed out to the first 300 purchasers of the original Book of Templates. Enjoy your upgrade, folks!! ::wanders off to soak his mouse-clicking finger:: :D

Wohoooo!

I got my copy and my workplace has already been so kind as to print it for me (not that they know  ).

It's abolutely brilliant and bigger and better than I had imagined.

Great work and thanks to Silverthorne!

Later,

P.S.: Oh, and the demi-gorgon minotaur on p. 64 has wrong HD. They should be d10's...

Wowzers!

I bought The Book of Templates back when it first showed up on RPGNow what seems like ages ago. A small but consise llisting of some very useful templates, and great brain fodder for any GM to look at for kick starting their own templates too. Awhile back I get this email from the publisher about a new version coming out and to look for an email with a link to download the update for free. No biggie they maybe cleaned it up a bit, maybe reformated stuff, I even thought maybe they updated it for 3.5 or something. Then I recieve an email withthe freebie link to download this "deluxe edition" of the product and I grab download the zip file and it sits in my download foolder for several days before I can get to looking at it. And thats where the wowzer comes in! Nothuing like I expected to see. Silverthorne took a simple formatted ebook and transformed it into a rather large complex resource going well beyond the scope of the original pdf publication. More fodder for a GM's mind to dig around in! The only comparision I can make is to say the first pdf was like a caterpiller, a grub worm, with its juices bits to it but very utilitarian and unadorned, and the deluxe edition here is like the colorful, exotic butterfly that the plain, unfancy grubworm grows up to be.

I am very impressed. The Book of Templates Deluxe Edition by itself, without seeing the prior versions is a very very excellent resource. But when seeing what it grew from makes it an amazing product, and add on to that that they offered the new version for free to those who bought the original version, makes me very impressed and happy with silverthorne games as a company. Its like buying a 1200 baud modem and when the company starts making 56k modems a few years later they give you one for free.

Kudos to everyone at Silverthorne Games :D
