Sinister Spire(con't RBD)(Orsal Judging)

OOC: I am in the other thread with pendrake utherman as my character. we were just at the first encounter, fighting some rather persistant kobolds. they took a bunch a damage, so I can only guess that they are with levels or something. some type of patrol and I am guessing there is a carrion crawler neer by. So what I am saying is that we have only just started the thread and probably no where neaar getting close to joining the others.

EsSarch speaks with a deep, emotionless tone. "I spoke to you of the disease that plagues our city. In its early stages its symptoms are physical, and it can still be cured. That is the purpose of these mushrooms. But in its advanced stages infected creatures are enslaved to sinister powers that work against us. We have learned of a group of creatures who are beyond cure and who attack our city. We know where they make their lair, in a cave beyond the river. Kill them, and bring me an amulet we have learned is in their possession, and then you shall have the information you seek."

My goodness, while I realized my "few days" had grown to much longer, I hadn't realized it was almost a month since my last post!

Here's why this is such a challenge to me. When BigB submitted the adventure for approval, he just referred to a published module, without the usual summary. Manzanita approved it on the spot, trusting in reputable publishers to design coherent and balanced adventures. I insisted on a little more, so he sent a list of encounters and treasure before I gave it the second approval. But, I never saw anything indicating how they all fit together. I felt I needed to study the thread to get whatever clues I could. Even so, if I do finish it, it'll be a seat-of-the-pants job. I'm willing to give it my best shot, but I still don't know where I'll have this leading, although I have figured out what this next immediate quest is all about.

If you decide to abort the adventure, I'd suggest going through this quest. Let your characters decide, at the end, that they're in over their heads, and the information broker will give you directions to get back to the surface in place of the promised information. In the meantime, Rowan's still with you as an NPC.[/sblock]

Phoenix frowns as she thinks silently for a full minute before replying. "Fine. I'm willing to do this if the others are as well. Was that choking gas out there near where we found the mushrooms what infects people? If so, then we've been exposed ourselves and will need some of that 'cure' before long as part of the deal also. Kill the creatures and bring back an amulet. Shouldn't be the hardest thing I've ever done." Phoenix finishes while looking to see what Lookspring and Rowan think.

Lookspring nods at Phoenix's words. "Information would be doing us no good if we are returning with deathly plague. I agree, be keeping some of the cure for us. For this task at least we are being the right ones for the job. Killing is our specialty."

OOC:
Thanks for getting us back in the game Orsal. I'm looking forward to seeing how this ends.
Does Phoenix still need a rest to recover her power points? We spent some of the party cash on another CLW wand, so that will help out at least! I'm ready to go.

OOC: I totally forgot that Phoenix would really like to grab a quick 8 hours of rest before heading back out if possible. Been so long since we were going that I forgot about that. Thanks for the reminder Selc!

EsSarch replies to your query, "We do not know what can cause the disease. But there can be no mistaking its occurrence. The first obvious sign will be boils all over your skin, if you are infected. Should that happen, we can negotiate healing you. There will still be time if a remedy is administered within a week of the first boils."

---------------------------------------------------

Assuming that all is agreeable, you take a night to recover, and then set out. Following EsSarch's direction, you locate the cave. As you stand at its opening, you see a passage about 20' wide, with rough-hewn walls, floor and ceiling, winding somewhat. From the entrance you cannot tell what is inside, or how far. How do you proceed? (What formation, and any precautions or preparations?)

"Fine." Phoenix says to EsSarch concerning the cure when and if it is needed. After resting, Phoenix feels ready to go again.

OOC: Phoenix and Rowan will be side by side with Lookspring in step behind them or with a 5 foot space between them if he wants. Phoenix has a new sunrod activated and held in her main hand.

Lookspring kneels by the cave entrance and carefully studies the ground, his face only inches from the dirt. Moving in widening circles, he searches for any indication that will tell him what sort of creatures dwell within. Rising from the dirt he picks up his bow and relays his findings to the others before taking up a position behind them.

Know. Dungeoneering +4 or Know. Nature +9 if he finds something to try and identify the type of creature.
