Six From Gate Pass - A War of the Burning Sky Campaign (3.5)

"May Tymora grant you luck friends! I cannot thank you enough." cries the man as you all press on, back into the throng of civilians.

After another few minutes of walking, through ash-covered slushy streets, you come upon a cluster of four-story buildings that have caught fire from the bombing. A crowd is watching in dismay when horror strikes — a woman smashes out a window on the fourth floor and cries for help, screaming that she’s trapped.

Why does the town have to be so damnably obstacle ridden when I have somewhere to go? thinks Alric with a slight sigh. "I suppose you'll want to save her..." he mutter's to Hrimr, Bannock and Torrent, suppressing slight irritation and impatience. "Very well, if we must let's practice haste if we can. May I suggest coaxing her to jump from the window and we shall catch her before she becomes abstract art upon the cobblestones? I have a winter blanket Bannock and I can use to catch her. I feel strongly that going into the building will be both hazardous and wasteful of our preciously limited time and I urge against it." He looks expectantly hoping the more virtuous members of the party won't be stupid enough to charge into the burning building.

Having refrained from commenting on the earlier acts of charity, Kirio sighs loudly and looks at his companions faced with this new opportunity to do "good", his gaze resting longer on Hrimr and Arnir.

"Listen friends, we have a job to do and have already been delayed. Most of us are targets of interest as far as the regesians are concerned, and we already know that there are internal forces looking to take advantage of the situation. I'll assist the group because it serves my purposes, but I question the wisdom of stopping to assist this unfortunate woman."

To Arnir in elven ";owafafo aowie ogawouala wo adwoiej allwowi aowuiralneh;oav a niwindline foe fe"

Having said his peace, he looks more closely at the burning structure to try and determine its state and if it is even possible to enter to assist the woman... (OOC: knowledge check, engineering; Identify dangerous construction; Determine structure’s style or age; Determine a structure’s weakness)

Kirio looks at the large human fighter and smiles "If we are going to do this I think Alric has the right of it. From what I can see, the ground floor is a raging inferno and main support beams and wooden pillars are crumbling and falling over. The building is probably only able to remain standing for another 3 - 4 minutes. We could perhaps climb the outside, but I am not going to try, and could not carry her down even if I could."

[sblock="what Kirio knows"]The building is made of wood and it looks like its been burning for some time. The ground floor is a raging inferno and main support beams and wooden pillars are crumbling and falling over. The building is probably only able to remain standing for another 3 - 4 minutes. There are also suitable hand and foot holds on the exterior of the structure which could allow someone to climb the exterior.[/sblock]

GM: In terms of Knowledge rolls, just roll it once and tell me the types of things you want to know. I'll tell you relevant information based on the total. Its not necessary for a roll for each subject.

Lars can contain himself no longer: "Let's keep moving, friends. Perhaps we can think of the greater objectives and the greater good done. If we stop at each small crisis, we may save a few people and doom countless others. If you want to stay here to help, then perhaps I can scout ahead to see if the way to the Depository is clear."

"That's a good idea Alric. Quick grab the blanket and some one convince to her jump onto it."

Hrimr goes over to Alric and grabs a corner of the blanket and looks up to the woman in the burning building.

Lars nods. OK, I will go forward and see what things are like at the Gate, and backtrack."

OOC: I am assuming that the group has not passed the gate between the two city districts.

GM: Lars, I'll let you know if you learn anything whilst scouting ahead.

As for using the blanket, you are definitely welcome to do that. Essentially, one of you that is holding the blanket will be required to make a strength check against a certain DC. Everyone else holding may "aid another" by succeeding at a strength check DC 10 which adds +2 to the main strength check.

Torrent rushes over to grab part of the blanket: "Good idea guys, lets move into position. Have any of you been gifted with a honeyed tongue? I have no clue what to tell that poor frantic woman to convince her to leap out of the window."
