Six From Gate Pass - A War of the Burning Sky Campaign (3.5)

"Yes, please help my wife. I tried to get her out when our house when it went up in flames. I was able to save the little ones, but had to run back in to get her. She is so badly burned. Please save my wife!"

[sblock="What Hrimr knows"]Hrimr, the creatures flying above you are definitely not natural beasts, and are thus not captured within that school of knowledge. As for the burned woman, your heal check reveals that though she is seriously burned and requires healing, she is only unconscious and not dead.[/sblock]

Arnir frowns and furrows his brow "I'm not sure if you recall, but a group of men just tried to kill us all a moment ago, and there's the slight issue of meeting a contact that will allow us to leave this hell. Do we have time for this?"

Arnir then looks up at the sky to the circling beast, trying to discern what it is.

Arnir frowns and furrows his brow "I'm not sure if you recall, but a group of men just tried to kill us all a moment ago, and there's the slight issue of meeting a contact that will allow us to leave this hell. Do we have time for this?"

Lars hops around impatiently, burning nervous energy. He clearly shares Arnir's feelings but refrains from commenting for now. He bides his time by carefully scanning the crowd, wary of more bounty hunters.

Hrimr becomes visibly angry at this remark and in a low voice says to the Elf:
"If I can help someone I will help them. I wasn't given these gifts just to kill and maim"

He then looks to the husband of the burned woman and says:
"By the grace of the gods she is still alive. She is badly hurt and will need healing. Take her to the Temple of Lathander, tell the acolytes there that Hrimr sent you and that she needs some healing immediately."

He then pulls out 20 gp and hands it to the man.

"This should help with donation to the temple"

OOC: I am assuming a 1st or 2nd level caster casting Cure Light Wounds

"I must be off, we have our own business to take care of this foul night"

Torrent, rather haughtily, states: "Arnir, while I share your desire to move forward, this citizen clearly needs our help and I doubt it will take our stout friend more than a few moments to provide some assistance. We always have time to do the right thing."

[sblock="What Arnir knows"]Arnir, you're confidant that the flying creatures are not extraplanar. Instead, you seem to recall that these beasts are called Wyverns and are a minor sub-species of dragon. That is the extent of your knowledge however.[/sblock]

[sblock="What Lars sees"]Lars, you're highly confidant that nobody is following you, or even paying attention to you. Most people are rapidly moving East along the road, heading for the district gate.[/sblock]

The man gasps as Hrimr places over a years salary into his hands. "My lord, you gift me with too generous a sum. But I have no strength left and must watch my children. How will I manage to get my wife to the temple? You said you were a healer. Are you a priest? Could you ask your god to heal her? Please, you can keep your gold, just please bring her back to me."

Torrent whispers in Hrimr's ear: "I could use my wand. It has capacity for 48 more uses. What do you think?"

Hrimr whispers back:

"Use a charge or two. Try and heal the worst of the scarring"

He looks to the husband and says:

"Rest for now, but when you have some strength try and get out of town or to the Temples. If the Empire takes the town, I doubt they will be in the best of moods."

Torrent takes out her wand and presses it to the unconscious woman. She speaks a few words and you can all see that most of her burns fade and her eyes slowly open.

The man begins to cry and hugs his wife to his chest. "Thank you good souls. Thank you so much."

Beaming, Torrent slaps Hrimr on the shoulder and turns to the group. "Shall we press on?"

"By Azuth's stave! Am I hearing this correctly?! We're in the middle of a city that's being razed by soldiers riding WYVERN. I'm not talking about the filthy mongrel back at the pub, i'm talking about THAT!"

Arnir thrusts his finger up in the sky at the circling beast

"THAT monstrosity is the kin of dragons and is clearly commanded by someone with a great deal more power than any of us have dealt with- someone who evidently wants us dead or imprisoned! Are we going to stop for every toothless beggar and sympathy case along the way to this meeting? If so, I hope we can contact Baderface across the Veil because I doubt the gnome will last too long! 'Oh, Sorry Rivereye old chap, we were caught up saving cats from trees and coming to the aid of three-legged newts!' Have you all taken leave of your wits, or have I ingested a tincture of temporary insanity because I feel out of sorts watching this nonsense! So, yes, please, let's move on!"

"For mercy's sake, man! She was a dying innocent lass. These are my people. This is why we're supposed to be doin' this. To help them. I don't know why you fight, Elf, but if we don't even care to save a poor man and his family from those Rag-heads raining fire on us, then there's no way I'll be leaving Gate Pass with you lot."

Bannock moves to the exhausted man and his wife and kneels next to them. He takes all but one day's rations from his pack. Softly, he says,

"Here. It's not safe to stay here and you'll need food for the strength to travel. If you've any family among the farmers North of the walls, go there, otherwise flee South. You may find people there friendly to our city."

He unburdens his shoulder of the extra bedroll and blanket he carries.

"And take these. They will help keep you warm."

Alric, observes the charity towards the civilian with slight impatience. He feels for the man and his family's plight, but is anxious to continue the mission considering the siege going on around him and the frantic mob of people.

OOC: while the healing is taking place, Alric is continually scanning the crowd for ill-doer's. Taking 10 (which results in 10) if possible. Let me know if a roll is needed in this situation.

"Yes, we press on."
