Six From Gate Pass - A War of the Burning Sky Campaign (3.5)

Lars runs inside and quickly gathers his pack before the smoke gets too thick. "Coast is clear outside. But the siege of the city is on. A bunch of buildings have been hit. Time to get out of here. It would be nice to bring the tents, but they will slow us down for now."

Lars shoulder his pack and heads for the side door. He takes a few moments and kneels by the body of the thug, quickly looking for through pockets and pouches. He pockets any valuables, but he also looks for any sign, patch, document or other clue about the thug's affiliation, or anything else of interest. Once this is done, he heads outside, loaded crossbow in hand.

OOC: Lars takes a bedroll, a blanket and a week of rations.

Lars, you pocket 5gp from the thug's pouches and 10 bolts from a quarrel at his hip. Other than the armband, there are no additional indicators of affiliation.

Kirio runs over to the chest and grabs enough rations for three days and a water skin... he can honestly carry no more.

"let us be about our business then... the longer we stay in Gate Pass the closer our friends the inquisitors get, and I for one am perfectly happy without their ministrations".

Kirio keeps his bow ready and heads out the alley door, standing guard for any signs trouble.

Bannock moves to where he had dropped his pack when the fighting began and retrieves it, already filled with the provisions he had collected from the chest. He starts to walk out of the building, hesitates for a moment or two, and then goes back to the chest and slings an additional bedroll and blanket over his shoulder before marching out into the alley.

Looking out at the destruction befalling his city, a look of anguish passes over his face. He runs with thudding steps into the open street.

"By Kord's mighty cock! Those bastards! Our city! My shop! I'll kill them all! We can't leave the city, we need to help the guard hold back these filthy whores!"

Arnir pops his head out of the door and throws the hood of his cloak over his eyes. With his bow in hand and backpack comfortably full, he thinks to make a snooty reply to Bannock, but knowing the pain of having lost those dear to him, and being forced to leave his homeland softens him.

"Your shop's gone, friend...If you want to really hurt the Ragesians, we should deliver this military intelligence. Keep focused on that, and I'm nearly certain there will be enough blood to slake your thirst for vengeance.....Oh, and thank you."

Hrimr looks to the burning city and back to Bannock.

"Boy, the elf is right. We cannot do anything to stop this. We can, however, hurt the Empire in other ways. This siege complicates things just a bit."

He walks to Bannock and gives him a pat on his arm and says:

"Don't worry, we'll make them pay"

Hrimr then walks over to Torrent and suggests:

"We should probably still go to the Repository. With our luck the Gnome will be terrified and be hiding some where in the building.

Also, do you have any idea why someone affiliated with Torm would have a bone to pick with you or the resistance?"

Alric clambers from the burning hulk of the poison apple pub after picking up his provisions on the way out. He's slightly irritated that his good cloak has been singed, but he supposes he'll live.

Alric listens quietly to Bannock's bellowing for a moment then lays a hand upon his shoulder with a sympathetic look in his eyes and says, "Get even, then rebuild."

He then falls into step behind Torrent feeling she knows the best way to escape and knowing that we will not be leaving before Badgerface is found. "Stay wary lads." referring to the possibility of running into more men that may accost him and his new comrades in arms.

Lars says, "I don't know if this place will be worth living in with the Ragesians and Inquisitors in control. I agree with Arnir and Hrimr, let's get the military intelligence from the gnome and head out as quickly as we can. ... If we can."

Lars points East along the street, "The Depository is less than a mile away. We can be there in a few minutes. We should hurry. There is only one gate to pass, hopefully it will not be closed and/or manned. Anyways, if it is, we can practice our story for getting out of town."

Torrent tightens the straps on her pack while she answers Hrimr: "Torm is a god of duty and honour, commonly worshiped by dedicated soldiers or paladins. I believe we can rule out the latter based on his apparent affiliation with those vile bounty hunters, but I cannot further fathom his purpose or intent. I'm just glad he and his minions fled the scene. I had no wish to be sold to an inquisitor."

With one final look at the blazing pub, you all head East down the Emelk Way (the main road of Gate Pass). The city is ablaze in many places and the bells of the watch towers clang out with urgency. You hear muted smashes and explosions behind you as you walk down a road that is progressively more choked with frantic civilians.

Gate Pass soldiers rush past you to some position to the West, carrying many quivers of arrows and other supplies. Every once and a while you spy a bat winged creature with the head of a lizard and the tail of a scorpion fly over head. Riding the beast are soldiers wearing the crimson uniform of Ragesia who drop pumpkin-sized clay urns onto buildings below them. When the urns strike, they explode in flames and spread flaming oil about. Pillars of smoke rise into the air, blocking out the moon and stars.

As you walk, you hear the whimpering voice of a desperate man: "Help...someone please help us!" With a break in the clump of civilians you're traveling with, you see a smoke and soot-stained man collapse in exhaustion. He carries the severely burned body of a woman in his arms and three small children sit wrapped in blankets and cry. Behind the family sit the ashen remains of a house, still glowing with red coals in some parts.

Hrimr tries to discern what manner of beast the soldiers are riding upon. (Knowledge Nature)

He's attention is caught by the plea for help from the crowd of people. When the man emerges with his burned wife Hrimr immediately runs over.

"Oh dear, let me have a look at her. I am a healer, I will do what I can for her."

Hrimr begins to look at the woman's body to see if she is still alive. (Heal check)
