Six From Gate Pass - A War of the Burning Sky Campaign (3.5)

He's on fire!

Hearing the cries of his stricken companions, Bannock looks towards the commotion at the side door, looks back at Alric in the front door, and decides that the fragile elves need more help than the veteran soldier. Raising a cry, he charges heedlessly through the flames towards the dog and its mercenary masters, appearing for a moment as a hell-sent juggernaught, bent on destruction!

"Gyaaaaaaahhhhhhh!"

OOC: Charge 2 squares to G10, attacking dog, power attack active.

OOC: Hahaha, poor dog! I have -2 AC until my next round. For clarity, attack bonus was BAB + str mod + weapon focus - power attack + charge bonus = 7.

Bannock, you hack the attack dog with your glaive, splitting it in half down the middle. Bones crack, flesh rips and blood and guts splatter onto the floor of the pub. The dog is dead before it can even cry out and a pool of blood spreads from its mangled remains.

GM: Although your easily murderized the dog, be sure to roll each d10 for any future critical hits. Dice are always rolled and your static modified (e.g. +7 to damage) is multiplied. So its 3d10+21 in your case.

Bolstered by the change in the battle tide by Bannock, Torrent attempts to finish off the wounded thug before her (H13). She chops downward with her axe and once again connects with the thug's now wounded collarbone. With a crack and a spray of blood she drives her axe blade deep into the thug's chest, slaying him.

The other thug (G13) quakes with fear at the sight of his mutilated pet and now dead ally. "To the nine hells with this!" he shouts and then bolts out the alley door.

Torrent allows the man to run away.

At the front door, the thug at J8 continues his rage-filled assault on Alric. Yet again, his attack meets a shield wall.

The other thug at J9 sees his friend bolt out of the alley and follows suit by running into the street. "Dis 'ere bounty ain't worth me life!" you hear him scream as he runs away.

You hear another booming voice outside: "In the name of Torm I've had enough of these Black Horse fools!" which is followed by a whinnying horse and the sounds of hoofs on cobblestones fading into quiet.

Realizing that only the one thug is left, Lars calls out : "Alric, you can come this way! We have you covered!"

With crossbow reloaded, Lars steps into the alley at I14, and looks out carefully into the street, doing his best to stay out of sight.

Lars, when you step out of the burning building and into the alley, you receive a blast of cold air and are greeted with the following sight:

The general area is illuminated by a flickering orange glow, indicating that many other buildings are aflame. The street is starting to fill with panicking people who are fleeing to the East and/or trying to get to the safety of temples. More loud thuds and booms strike out and the watch towers in the city have begun ringing bells.

There is no sign of the thugs who bolted away, or the man on the horse.

Arnir looks about in a bit of a daze, still reeling somewhat from the sharp blow to the head. He regains his wits as he looks around and sees all thugs but the one flee the burning building. He looks over his shoulder to Alric, still engaged with that tiresome thug and moves to G10 so he can get a look at the toothless gutter slime that's thoroughly ruined his night.

He calls out to Alric "Lead our guest inside, would you Alric? I'm sure we've all got something to share with him."

Glaring at the thug with an intensity of emotion usually reserved only for bartenders declaring last call, Arnir begins to gesticulate and mutter sacred words under his breath, readying a spell and waiting for the thug to walk through the door before leaving him in a daze, allowing his cohorts to pick him apart with ease.

OOC: Note, DC on daze is 10+4(int)+0(spell level)=14

Alric thrusts his sword at the thug through the door and then backs further into the pub to I10, knowing full well his movement will leave a momentary opening in his defense for additional attack, but hoping it will draw the thug into the pub further.

"I have little time for a whelp as impotent as castrated cow." Alric taunts the thug.

"Get out of the building my comrades. It will collapse if it's left to burn as it is!"

Alric, your sword once again thrusts deep into the wounded thug's belly. With a splash of blood and a final breath, he collapses to the ground.

End of Combat! We're Off Initiative!
**************************

The pub is quickly filling with smoke as the second floor burns strongly and the flames from the fallen debris begin to spread.

Torrent sheathes her axe, coughs and says: "We must hurry from this inferno. Grab what you need from the chest if you haven't already and lets be away. I'm afraid all this fire bombing will scare Rivereye from the rendezvous."

She then produces a wooden wand, etched in symbols of the sea and waves, from her pack. She approaches Kirio and Arnir and states: "This wand, infused with the powers of my God, will heal your wounds." She then touches the wand to each of you. A pleasant cooling sensation covers your body and open wounds close, bruises disappear and any dizziness dissipates.

"Hurry!" she calls as she exits the front door, "We need to get moving!"
