Six From Gate Pass - A War of the Burning Sky Campaign (3.5)

"Hrimr!" Torrent cries, "I need to help Alric, hold the line at the door!" She then raises her shield to block any further attacks from the skeleton as she moves to take up a position near Alric, the half-orc and the Inquisitor (Torrent moves to P17). En route she draws her axe and tries to hack the half-orc accosting Alric. Her axe connects with her target's shoulder, cutting a jagged gash in the greyish-green flesh.

Haddin and Crystin delay as the wizard coughs up a wad of phlegm and blood. He can spot no viable targets for his spells, and Crystin grips to her father in fear.

At the rear door, the two soldiers attempt to walk across Kirio's grease spell and enter the home. The ground is extremely slippery and though they are able to maintain enough balance not to fall, they are unable to move forward.

A sword at his back and man of black magic to his front. Alric curses his luck to be in such a predicament. He also has mixed feelings of Torrent's entering the fray.

"Torrent you fool! This is tactically incorrect!" After he says it he realizes how absurd the scolding sounds. Though in actual fact, he's just sore at the thought of Torrent coming to his "rescue" and owing her for more than just bandaging him up.

The heat of the battle washes over Alric again, he recovers from the befuddlement of the compulsion spell and in the blink of an eye he considers dozens of tactical maneuvers to handle this melee he's fallen into. Though he looks into the red eyed inquisitor, the one that openly challenged him and made him a fool. In that moment he puts aside all his tactical sense and gives in... to scorn.

"I'm going to make you pay for that you damnable abomination!"

Alric raises his blade over the top of his shield, point facing behind him and twisting his torso such that his chest faces towards his shield. Then with hate writ upon his face he uncoils his back, shoulders and arms in a cross-slash aimed at the inquisitor's throat. The sword sails harmlessly over the inquisitors head, but Alric doesn't relent and he moves to pressure the inquisitor in this pitched melee (Alric 5ft steps to P20).

The Inquisitor easily dodges the clumsy sword strike from Alric and focuses intently on Hrimr. Just before the dwarf is able to complete the casting of his spell, the Inquisitor speaks dark words and rolls his hands in circular motions in front of his chest. Blackish-red energies surge between his hands, which seem to struggle to contain the pulsating energy. Hrimr speaks his final words of casting and the Inquisitor releases the energy as a ray which blasts at the dwarf. Hrimr's spell flickers for a mere moment, as if threatening to be cancelled out, but then stabilizes and continues as per normal.

GM: Hrimr, in case you were curious, the DC for an Inquisitor to meet or beat is based on the 11 + the caster level of the effect he/she is trying to counter spell. Thus, it was DC 13 for this.

Hrimr holds the spell and with a word brings it completion. A cloud of white smoke appears near the Inquistor and the Half Orc harassing Alric and Torrent (P19). A low growl is heard from the smoke and as it clears a wolf is standing there glaring at the inquisitor. It suddenly lunges at him fangs bared.

While the wolf attacks Hrimr summons an acid dart to his hand and throws it at the skeleton that was not repulsed by Torrent's holy power (N15). He then moves back a bit and draws his sling (N10).

Kirio raises his flute to his lips once more and resumes playing... (OOC: Inspire Courage - +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls).

Hrimr, your summoned wolf snaps its jaws down on empty air with a snarl and your dart of acid narrowly misses striking the skeleton. The acid sizzles on the inner edge of the undead's verdigris covered shield.

The half-orc with the bastard sword flinches from the wound in his shoulder and takes a moment to inspect the stream of blood pouring down his arm. His eyes begin to twitch and veins pulsate on his forehead. He begins to breathe heavily and his biceps flex. Suddenly, he throws his head back and roars in uncontrollable rage. He then lashes out at Torrent with his blade, screaming and spraying spittle about. He stabs viciously at Torrent's gut and the tip of the blade slips below the edge of her breastplate. It easily splits the leather and padding below and plunges into her lower stomach. The blade continues through her torso and exits her lower back, spilling her lifeblood in mass quantities. Torrent's eyes roll back in her skull and blood pours from her mouth. The half-orc howls in rage again and then pulls his blade out, causing Torrent to collapse to the ground in a heap.

Lars, your bolt once again drives into the door frame.

GM: Lars, as an aside, judging by the angle you're firing at, and the size of the doorway, I'm not sure you could even hit the soldier at G16.

Arnir moves to M13 and takes a quick peek. Seeing Torrent crumple in a bloody mass causes his hands to tremble. He quickly steadies himself and reaching behind his back, he draws an arrow from his quiver, nocks it and draws the string back in one smooth motion. Leveling his bow at the half-orc, he exhales deeply and releases, praying to Mystra that the arrow finds its mark.

OOC: Seriously? 3 damage?

Arnir your arrow strikes the half-orc in the ribs. The arrowhead pierces the leather armor and lodges itself a few inches into flesh. Blood spills down the opening in the leather, but the half-orc continues on as if he does not notice the pain.

As Arnir's arrow leaves his bow, the remaining skeleton dashes past the doorway, its shield still smoking from the acid, and attempts to hack Hrimr to bits (move to N11).
