Skill points and leveling up

An interesting question came up in our group today. If you're multiclassing, lets say Wiz/Rog for example, and you gain a level in Rogue, can you put points into class skills for Wizards as class skills? To rephrase, could a Wiz/Rog taking a new level in rogue put 4 points into a Knowledge skill to add 4 points to his check modifier, or could he only do so for rogue skills?

There may be rules about it somewhere, but we didn't find them because we were having too much fun arguing.

While the maximum number of ranks for all the character's class skills from both classes would be the same, skill points are spent according to the class that is currently leveling. So, for example, a 1st level Rogue/1st level Wizard taking 2nd level Rogue could still max out Knowledge (Arcana) to 6 ranks, but it would cost him as a cross-class skill to do so.

Reference pages 59 and 60 of the PHB.

There are rules, any previous class skill is still considered a class skill in terms of maximum ranks, but only current class skills get 1:1 ratio on skill points to ranks.
