D&D 5E SKT in MTG:Zendikar, what players classes?

Hey everyone,

I plan on running my group thru LMoP + PotA set in the Nentir Vale starting next week, but one friend/player and I are already planning our next campaign. We'll probably convert an old Fantasy Age game that never ended to 5e, using an home setting and OotA, but we're still looking for other options. Some of our players are bigtime MTG players, and even if I cant for the life of me understand the rules of the card game, love the setting and his conversion to 5e in the different Planeshift:X. We had the idea to try CoS in Innistrad and I'd kind of love Dming SKT for them, but set among the floating islands of Zendikar.

I'm not an expert on Zendikar's lore, but what classes/Archetype would you say make more sense for the setting, and which would you remove? For now I'd keep:

Cleric: Removed
Warlock: Demon (Fiend), Angels (Undying Light), Ancient Planeswalker (Seeker)
Ranger: As is, plus the Horizon walker
Fighter: As is
Druid: As is, + Twilight
Wizard: Invoker, Abjuration, Necromancy
Rogue: Thief, Scout, Swashbuckler
Barbarian: Totem, Zealot, Storm
Bard: Called Shaman or Animist-» Lore, Valor, Whisper
Paladin: Removed
Sorcerer: Called Roilmage-» Chaos, Storm, Pheonix

The only issue I'd worry about is SKT assumes a quite densely populated area for the campaign. Zendikar seems much more wild and untamed with only a few population centers widely scattered. I too love the setting though. I really want to run something there. My current idea is something loosely based on TftYP but the more I read the adventures in there the less enthused I get.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

And to answer your question - that seems like a good list though I'm skeptical about keeping the cleric. Zendikar seems very religion light. Druids yes, clerics no :)

If I'm running the campaign, I'll make sure to set it after the destruction of the Eldrazi. There's at least a dozen of named settlements on the wiki, and I guess I could just create some more if my players want to visit more cities. I'd like this to be a campaign based on the Exploration pillar of the game, so having wide distance between settlements is not something I'm concerned with: I can just use portal, beast-powered gliders etc. I'd like my players to start thinking in 3D, I want them to not just wonder ''left or Right?'' but also ''Up or down?''.

I'll make sure to steal your idea and use the dungeons from TftYP as ''side expeditions''.

As for clerics, I dont know if the Merfolks and Kors returned to their former faith after the fall of the Eldrazies that birthed their gods. I guess I could remove them or just say that in this time of reconstruction of their homeworld, the Kors and Merfolks needed some kind of faith, so they returned to their worship of Emeria, Ula and Cosi as they imagined them before.

Thanks a lot, I'll make sure to use it. It will be in a long time if we keep to our regular schedule, but I'm super hyped on this project.
