Slaad replacements

I've found you can make slaads more palatable with the proper slaad dressing. Very simple idea: Have you considered mixing a few of your favorite spices in oil?

I've never really thought frogs were the embodiment of Chaos.

I've got a module that has a couple slaadi invading a lawful evil plane to cause havoc.

What would you recommend for replacements to swap into their place? The party is 5 powerful 16th level characters. d20 sourcebook alternative sources are fine, I have many.

I agree with you on this. I used intelligent Teratomorphs (MMII or FF) and Chaos Beasts instead in my last Planescape game. The Teratomorphs always remind me of Yog-sothoth from Call of Cthulu. :)

Are those the Chaos oozes from MMII? I already used them for a chaos incursion into the Outlands.

I know they're from the Far Realms, but how about Kaorti?

I vote for the teratomorphs and chaos beasts. I had lots of fun with advanced templated (sometimes even class-leveled) chaos beast in a series of jungle adventures. Eventually, one of the PCs actually got transformed into a half-drow chaos beast. He then got eaten by a mudmaw.

I have not yet managed to use a teratomorph, but I will one day. They just ooze character (get it?)

I'd suggest using the Ei'Risai from Classics of Fantasy. The entire book presents a series of OGC monsters to replace those from the MM that didn't get into the SRD (though there are no githyanki and githzerai replacements), and uses the ei'risai for the slaad. Five different types are presented, each more powerful than the last, with a set of appearance tables to make each one look unique, as spawns of chaos should.

I'll second this recommendation. They come across more as "beastmen" or "mongrelmen" than frogmen given their randomized features.

And it's by our very own Mouseferatu!

Suppose you have an awakened chicken sorcereress attacked by a red slaad. The resulting green slaad is then marooned on a dune-covered isle, where she becomes a Queen of the Wild who dabbles in witchcraft. And thus you have....

a chicken slaad sand witch

I'll second Frankthedm's comment

Use the exact same stats for Slaad, but give them another look, or even another name.

I've seen this done with great success in other circumstances.

Game ON!
