Slash and Pummel

I have a brawler style fighter with a spiked gauntlet in my "free" hand. When I make the second attack for this power, do I make it using my spiked gauntlet? If not, how do I punch someone with that hand without getting my gauntlet in the way? I thought the point to using a spiked gauntlet was to get extra damage on a punch. The description of the power never says what to do if you are wearing a gauntlet. Do I add the gauntlet damage to the 3 damage plus strength modifier damage?

No. The secondary attack does static damage.

It gets what it gets; i.e. 3 + Strength modifier damage.

Is it logical? Perhaps not, but that's how the power is written.

I agree, it is not logical. I think doing away with the 3 damage, and instead using the d6 or d8 from the gauntlet (if you've taken that feat for extra damage) will replace the static damage in my campaign. I will see if this ends up being too much of a power creep as players start using magic gauntlets. It will allow this fighter to put out a few more points of damage, but thats not such a bad thing. Combat in 4E takes way too long anyways.
I just wanted to hear opinions of what other players and DM's thought about this power and gauntlets. Thanks for your response.

Congrats on making a power better than Dual Strike was before the errata.

At level one, Tempest Technique, Weapon Focus (unarmed strike) with two spiked gauntlets:

+7 vs AC, 1d6+3 damage for the first fist, and +7 vs Reflex, 1d6+7 for the other fist.

Way to make what is already a great damaging power into something unrecognizably obscene.

You are using the "free hand" to make the attack not the "weapon" spiked gauntlet to make the attack even though they may be the same hand.

What you are trying to do is make this power into the pre-errata Dual Strike but better because you get STR bonus damage on the 2nd attack.

Its written the way it is because thats how its balanced.

Damn I got ninjad

there are enough poers that don´t add damage dice even though it is done with a weapon. So does slash and pummel. You don´t get a real blow in, but you follow up with a blow that the enemy can´t block well...
