Slaves of the Dragon (orsal judging)

Veras-Re arrives much later than the quick-footed Halfling and is astride the rest of the other party. He is just as disheveled and messy as he appeared before but no more so, signifying that they probably encountered no fighting in the tunnels.

Opale takes a moment reading it. "It seems that even kobold is not a matter of black and white." She reads aloud the letter.

"I wonder if we couldn't take these factions division in our advantage."

"That sounds odd... did you only find those parchments?" Thanyvan asks, watching the group return from underground.

"Yes," Jack answers, "...well, aside from a few spear traps, a couple of cots, a table or two, a latrine, and an ancient, but now dead, kobold priest sitting in a Shrine of the World Scale, none of which we bothered bringing back with us."

"That's not good, it mean the only Integrator we know about is dead. It is that group we need to convince. The Crusaders are the ones we will have to fight, and I think the Indifferents will have more chance to gather on the winning side if things become too hot. We might be that trigger, just look at the one who wrote that last note."

"So, nothing out of the ordinar... err, what? kobold priest, Shrine of what? Could you... err, explain that?"

I'm assuming Opale will look through the other parchments, or at least will hand them to those who might want to read them:

[sblock=Parchments Part 2]The other parchments seem to be written by another person, and they are mostly accounts and lists. There is a list of kobolds in the outpost, and their assumed or professed political affiliation. Many seem to have been either Crusaders or Indifferent. Only 5 are clearly marked as Integrators. Z'Zess is given as Indifferent with Integrator leanings. The list also suggests that several Integrators have been rejected by whoever penned the list.
Another list shows an analysis of all the townfolk. Joran's entry is "Dangerous - might try to lead other townsfolk away during night." Jeline's entry is "Dangerous - may inspire rebellion. Learned much from late lover. Addendum: Upset by the flight of daughter. Infinite torture ordered to keep broken." There is an entry on a Meras: "Dangerous, and rebellious. Eskaron's order of no execution holds for now. Addendum: Executed by Eskaron." There is even an entry on Sina: "Rebellious. Keep in view. Addendum: Fled after Execution of Meras. Dangerous." The majority of the entries, however, amount to "Content" and "Discontent, but passive".
There are lists of duties, and the kobolds assigned to them. A short report bemoaning the lack of faith in many clans. A report cursing having to trade with Lathirn, "this vermin hive". And finally, what appears to be a request to obtain a Cleanser weapon that works well against humans. The request was denied, apparently by Eskaron himself, saying that the reasons these weapons are forbidden still hold.[/sblock]

Quarion seems taken aback at the vocabulary in both the letters, and his eyes grow wide at the word "Beloved". He starts to speak, "These creatures are incapable of... They cannot possibly... I am..." He looks down and leans on his staff. Garma brushes up against him and the elf absent-mindedly strokes his lupine companion. Quarion, usually proud and confident, is silent for now.

Opale continues to read aloud the second part and stops as Quarion babbles his words."What?" She said, looking angrily at the elf. "You thought they were bloodthirsty souless creature. Demons and undead enter in that category. Kobold not. They simply have a different level of values. You could be surprised by what some individual might think of us. As long as we will attack them on sight, they will do the same on us, to defend themselves. Look at the mountain goblin. They are goblins, but they are peacefull. Why some kobold couldn't do the same?

I thought at a moment that the kobold might act under Eskaron rules out of fear, not by loyalty. Why a dragon would care more for a kobold than a human? Well, I was half right. The Integrators, the Crusaders, the Indifferent, we must take advantage of that division.

And we must do that fast. I don't know what that Cleanser is, but I rather like to never know."

"Well, they certainly appear highly organized, and much broader than holding down a couple of villiages. They are apparently not stationed in this Lathirn place, so where do we go to find them? It would be great if we could talk to some of these Integrators and Indifferents. I'm sure a winning smile from yours truly would convince them the right way to go. And if not, sounds like there will always be Crusaders for target practice! So what do we do now?"
