Slight Rogue Variant

I was thinking that later Sneak Attack damage dice arn't worth as much as the original ones.

That's a pretty good point. I was thinking you could mix and match Sneak Attack with Feats (which is not the variant in UA, there you get either fighter feats or sneak attack with no mixing). But then what rogue wouldn't take a feat instead of going from 9d6 to 10d6 sneak attack. So maybe just take sneak attack or feats.

I'd like to be able to mix and match as well. High level rogues need all the help they can get. One thing that making +10d6 SA cost only 7 feats is that you can turn the 5 or so Special Abilities into feats and use the last three feat slots for them. That way you can give the rogue 10 bonus feats and allow the player to chose if he wants to follow the normal rogue abilities or mix and match. The timing might be off a wee bit however.

I say let them pick each time. There aren't any broken synergies involved, so you would get, at worst, a teensy bump in power over a core rogue.

I'd consider a specific feat list, though.

New Rogue classes

Check the newly released Complete Adventurer for some new Rogue variants. There is a Scout variant and some others like the Spellthief.

Another option is the Chameleon class out of Races of Destiny. I believe you have to be human though.

Good luck!

That should work, although I suspect it will weaken the Rogue overall. The Rogue gets less benefit from the bonus feats than a fighter would.

Keep in mind: The Sneak Attack is to make Rogues viable in combat. If a character stocks up on Feats like Alertness, what will they do in a fight? That's the player's choice, of course, but if you run a lot of combat, you'll have a bored player.

Either way, I wouldn't let them take Toughness, Open Minded, Great Fortitude, et cetera.
